Chatting To Members Of The Opposite Sex And Your Parents

Salaam

So…could you speak to members of the opposite sex in front of your parents?

If I’m ever speaking to a member of an opposite sex, I often ask myself….could I have also carried out this conversation if my parents were with me?

I’m not speaking about undercover relationships, or flirting etc cos none of us should be doing that anyway….I’m speaking about work matters, matters relating to School/uni, or general friends of the family….

Girls Living Out

Salaam

When I was 11 I wasn’t allowed to go camping for a week with my school….in high school I wasn’t allowed to go to the school trip to Spain…. I’ve always had to tell my friends that I can not go on holiday with them….this used to upset me a LOT. I used to cry for days.

When I was applying to University’s I was told to only pick Uni’s where’d I be able to commute to daily…

Staying away from home is the one thing my dad has always been incredibly strict about.

Alcohol And You

Salaam

The Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) has cursed ten people in connection with wine: the wine-presser, the one who has it pressed, the one who drinks it, the one who conveys it, the one to whom it is conveyed, the one who serves it, the one who sells it, the one who benefits from the price paid for it, the one who buys it, and the one for whom it is bought.

How strict are you when it comes to alcohol? I’m sure most of us have never touched the stuff…however, how strict are you when it comes to avoiding all things relating to it?

Dozens dead in Pakistan stampede

At least 29 women and children have died in a stampede after a religious gathering in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi.
More than 70 are believed to have been injured, some critically, and doctors are urgently appealing for blood.

The stampede started when a girl fell down during women-only prayers in an Islamic centre.

At least 10,000 women were at the centre to mark the Prophet Muhammad's birthday, which falls on Tuesday

The dead and injured have been taken to two different hospitals.

The Ummah's Handicap

The Ummah's Handicap:
How We Treat Disabled Muslims

by Amber Rehman

As Muslims we are taught from the instructions in the Quran and the life of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) not to judge one another based on surface things, for the only thing that distinguishes us is piety.

And since none can judge what is in the heart of another, the task of being al-Hakeem (the Judge) only belongs to Allah.

Unfortunately as a handicapped Muslim woman, I have learned otherwise.

DISCRIMINATION OF THE DISABLED:
A DISEASE THAT NEEDS TO BE CURED

I have seen that Muslims all say they discourage discrimination, but when push comes to shove, everyone shows a different side.

Any fool can criticize, and most fools do

Salaam

You’ve spent a whole day scrubbing your house and the only thing your Nan can say is “you’ve missed a spot”.

You get straight A’s for your school report and one B but the only thing you dad can pick up on is the fact that you got a B when you should have got an A.

You pour your heart out in some essay or article that you’ve been asked to write only for the reader to dismiss it as a load of rubbish.

You spend a lot of money buying a present for someone, only for them to tell you that they don’t like it.

Your job CV, article or marriage proposal is harshly rejected.

To Shake Or Not To Shake

Salaam

Today I had a job interview with a teaching agency in central London; this is supposedly the best teaching agency in London, I was impressed and overwhelmed by the professionalism in that company and was desperate to make a good impression…

The guy who was interviewing me introduced himself and extended his arm out, I stood there thinking to myself “Shall I explain to him that I can’t shake hands with a non Mahram or should I pretend I didn’t notice his hand”.

Big Babies

Salaam

Many people in the Asian Community lead VERY sheltered lives.

My twelve year old neighbour gets spoon fed by his mum every night, whilst he reclines on the pillow watching Telly…in fact even my 30-40year old uncle’s still sometimes get spoon fed by their mum.

What are the implications of babying your grown children?

If anything, don’t people start to take liberties? Who wouldn’t want to be waited on hand and foot?

And doesnt this result in the self-fulfilling prophecy? You know, treat someone like a baby and they'll begin to act like a baby?

Just Blame Islam

Salaam

Often, when someone who is religious minded or active in Islam, gets into disputes or disagreements or does something wrong….people are quick to retaliate by saying “is this what your books/teacher or mosque teaches you”

Why is that?

There are 101 reasons why people argue or make mistakes in life…it could be cos of external influences such as society, media, friends or even their own selves, so why blame Islam first?

Is this because secretly some people hold a grudge or hostility against Islam, which they’d never admit out loud?

OR is there truth in their statement?
