P-I-G

Salaam

I was listening to a bright Muslim girl read the other day, it was a book about farm animals and when she came to the word ‘pig’ she spelled it out ‘p-i-g’ and told me “Mummy said I’m not allowed to say this word”.

I didn’t argue with her.

An aunty of mine covers her eyes whenever she sees pigs on the telly.

I was told about a person who would freak out whenever the little cartoon piglet came on Winnie the Pooh and would run off to do wudu again.

Another kid I know never eats the “pig” in the animal crackers biscuit.

Muslim hardship under spotlight

Many Muslims in England face bleak employment prospects and endure poor standards of housing, a government-backed study has found.
The report revealed Muslims were more likely than any other faith group to be jobless and living in poor conditions.

It said half of Muslims aged over 25 were unemployed, and one in three lived in the most deprived areas of England.

University researchers in Birmingham, Derby, Oxford, and Warwick also found they had poorer levels of education.

“Patta”

Salaam

“Patta” AKA Credit Card Fraud is very common in my town. When my debit card was declined a week ago in a petrol pump I was convinced someone was messing about with my card…esp since I have my pin number written everywhere…

My sister’s wallet was stolen/lost today…poor thing was so upset; she quickly cancelled all her cards cos like me she also had her pin and internet banking information with her cards.

From what I’ve been told…people get hold of account numbers/sort codes etc and use them in petrol pumps and purchase stuff from the internet.

Planning Ahead

Salaam

How organised are you? Are you into diaries, planners, to do lists, intentions before you go and do something?

I mean are you the type that always plans ahead? Do you always iron your clothes for work/Uni the night before?

Do you always have essays/articles typed up well before the deadline? Do you spend days/weeks/months studying for exams/interviews?

Are you the type whose mobile /electric toothbrush etc never goes dead because you always charge when the battery is half?

Wife 'beheads husband' in Karachi

Wife 'beheads husband' in Karachi

Police in the Pakistani city of Karachi say a woman beheaded her husband and chopped up his body after he announced plans to take a fourth wife.
Officers said Majeeda Khatoon killed her husband while he was asleep and cut him up, helped by two male relatives.

The dismembered parts were then dumped in a drain in the Gulshan-e-Hadeed area on the city's outskirts.

Police said the woman, arrested last week, had confessed to the crime. Islam permits men to take up to four wives.

Sikh Of Being Mistaken For A Muslim

Salaam

The “Don't freak, I'm a Sikh” stickers on backpacks and tee shirts are very common in London underground.

Such stickers make me smile however; this is quite a serious issue for the Sikh.

According to statistics Sikhs face more racist backlash that Muslims because of their turbans….its ironic because the turban in the UK is a sign of the Sikh identity and not the Muslim one…

Because of this reason some Sikhs have a serious problem with Muslims.

I’m Sorry…

Salaam

Saying sorry is hard on the soul….do you find it easy to apologise to those whom you have wronged?

OR are you one of them who can easily apologise first to outsiders but will bend in front of family?

And why is that? Why do we find it easy to say sorry to someone who we’ve accidentally not given way to on the Zebra crossing but find it hard to say sorry to your siblings?

Obviously, the underlying factor behind the inability to say sorry is pride…our Nafs does not like to bend.

Your Pants Are On Fire..

Salaam

The Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) said “Whatever of the lower garment is below the ankles is in the Fire.”

What exactly does that mean?

I don’t know much about this and I’ve never bothered to find out about it either …after all this ruling doesn’t effect me. But in a couple of months time I’ll be teaching younger boys Islamic Studies….so I thought I’d try to look up some “boyish” topics.

From what I’ve seen (with my gaze lowered :?

Friday's

Salaam

Many Muslims commemorate the month of Rabil ul Awal because this was the month in which the Beloved Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) was born.

Dates/time in Islam is incredibility important. Friday is another important day for Muslims…it was on this day Prophet Adam (as) was created and on this day the Day of Judgement will take place.

It was on Friday that the Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) said “This day, I have completed your religion for you”.

Daroods are presented to the Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) and on this day and during this day there is an hour in which dua’s are ALWAYS accepted.
