I have my nanny staying over for a few weeks…she’s an interesting lady.

I rate my nans strength and character…she became a widow at a young age and brought up and married off six children despite living in relative poverty.

She is nothing like my mum and can at times be outrageous in her views and opinions.

My nan often says extremely embarrassing stuff to me in front of friends and family that makes me cringe.

Some people get funny in their old age. They become child like…they’re blunt, abrupt, impatient, embarrassing and at times incredibly annoying.

Can A Dog Be A Muslims Best Friend?

Salaam

I was sitting on the bus with this lady I know who is registered blind…there’s a certain way to deal with people who are registered blind…there are many important do’s and don’ts that one HAS to be familiar with...and you can only know such stuff if you’ve personally associated with people who are visually impaired.

Anyway, another lady who was blind got on the bus with her guide dog…I was SO impressed with the quiet nature of the dog and how perfectly it guided her…he even knew when they reached her stop!

My mum is registered blind.

British Gay And Muslim

Gay Muslims

This Channel 4 documentary shows how the experiences of five lesbian and gay Muslims in Britain challenge the heterosexual bias in Muslim communities and illustrate the diversity within Islam. Tamsila Tauqir reports

Over the sinister introductory music to the programme, presenter Sonia Deol says: ‘Islam is fierce in its condemnation of homosexuality.’ Let’s be fair, antagonism towards homosexuality is no more exclusive to any one community than favouring men, the able-bodied and those with wealth and power.

Islam Is HARD!

Salaam

Allah (swt) does not burden an individual with more then he can bear.

We are also told that Islam is an easy religion. “We will ease you to the Easy Way”(87:8 )

The Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) was instructed to make life easy for others and presents the call for Islam (da’wa), in a pleasant manner that is easy to adhere to.

So why do many youth find Islam hard? I often hear young girls asking me “why is Islam so HARD?”

I don’t even know where to begin when a Muslim girl says such a thing…and when asked what part of Islam she finds “hard”…”EVERYTHING!!” is the response.

Ignorance Is NOT Bliss

I work in lots of different schools all over East London. Whenever I’m sent to a “failing school” its always predominantly Muslim Pakistanis/Bengali’s

Is this a coincidence? Not really cos according to statistics…

Muslims have the lowest GCSE pass rates.

Muslims have the highest fail rates at A-Level.

Muslims are the lowest number of people attending University.

Muslims have the highest drop-out rates at A-Level and University.

Muslims have an employment rate of only 38%. This is the lowest of all faith groups.

Muslim Unity-What Does It Mean To YOU?

Salaam

I don’t know what type of high school you guys went to…but in my high school there were many cliques.

We had the “popular/pretty girls” we had the “Gangsters/Rude bwoys” we had the “geeks/nerd” we had the “arty farty” type, we had the “Coconuts” we had the “Freshies” and many more.

It just wasn’t the done thing for the “popular mean girls” to associate with the “nerds” and the “Coconuts” and “freshies” spent all their time making fun out of each other.

Living A Double Life

Amazing double life a growing trend among Muslim girls

By Claire Coleman

For the past four years, 24-year-old engineering student Sofia Ahmed
has been leading a double life. During a typical week, she will study in her university library by day, then head to any one of Liverpool's many student bars at night.

Mashallah-My Scholar Is SO Fantastic!!

What did you guys think when you read the title of this thread?

“Here she goes again”? “Puh-lease, he aint all that”? “I totally agree”

Or were you indifferent to the statement?

I’ve noticed that high praise of others put people off big time. Why is that? Is it jealousy? Is it due to general irritation or annoyance? Is it because people just generally can not stomach the praise of others?

Many times in life I’ve kept my mouth shut when I’ve wanted to praise someone in a gathering…but I haven’t because I knew that it would put people off.

Bling Bling It’s a Paki Ting

Yet another aunty grabbed my hand the other day and said that my bare wrists “don’t look good”. I pointed out that they weren’t bare- I was wearing a charm bracelet…

I know what she meant though. I’ve heard this lecture many times before. I wasn’t wearing any gold.

I don’t like gold and I have never done so. I dislike the look and the colour. And how silly would it look if I was wearing 12 chunky gold bracelets with English clothes?

And I hardly own any gold…. I have two gold rings which were a B’day present (from an English shop).

Considerate Worship

Salaam

One should make sure that their devotions to Allah (swt) does not inconvenience others.

There was a man who would read long surah’s in salaah and someone complained to the Holy Prophet (saw)…the Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) reprimanded him and told him to read shorter surah’s.

We all must be aware of the individual who used to spend their night and day in worship and their partner complained to the Holy Prophet (saw)….the Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) informed that individual that “Your partner has a right over you”.
