When I Grow Up I Want To….

Salaam

I was 10 years old and used to say this a LOT….I’m 22years old now and STILL find myself regularly dropping this line.

I’m sure look forward to a comfortable/successful future. If we didn’t then most of us wouldn’t be in higher education today…

What we want in life id dependent on our financial situation, health, strength of ambition and of course the will of Allah (swt).

Death

Salaam

My Nan passed away last week-we were very close. This has been a difficult time for us all.

The Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) said “people are asleep; when they die they wake up”. IMO the same can be said about those who experience the death of a loved one….I swear, nothing has opened my eyes and made me critically look at my life more than this experience.

Death isn’t a topic I liked to talk or read about….I’d switch off when such a topic was raised, I didn’t like to acknowledge it, so the unexpected death of my Nan hit me hard.

I should be studying...

Salaam

How many people come here when they should be studying? Or at work? Or someplace else?

I never, ever used the computers at Uni when I was doing my degree, but now I find myself logging in during our boring ICT lessons (which is a core subject now in schools) and typing really lightly when the lecturers back is turned.

I'm the queen of procrastination....I switch the computer on to do some research or type up an assignment and I find myself wondering here....

Feel free to join me here when you really should be elsewhere doing something else.....

70 Excuses

Salaam

It is said that if we see our Muslim brother/sister doing something wrong, we should make 70 excuses for their actions.

Imam Abu Hanifah said that if someone possesses 99 signs of Kufr, and only one sign of being a good person, we have no right to label him/her as a bad person.

Badgamani (suspicion) in Islam is a sin. Also, false accusations (slander) is a huge sin in Islam…some say that it is considered worse than adultery.

Mosque woman wins sex bias payout

Mosque woman wins sex bias payout

A MUSLIM woman has been awarded nearly £35,000 after she suffered an 18-month campaign of racial and sexual discrimination at Europe’s largest mosque.

The “spiteful” treatment of Nahid Mahmoud, a secretary at the Islamic Cultural Centre and Central Mosque in Regent’s Park, London, amounted to an “exploitation of the weakness of women in Islamic culture”, an employment tribunal was told.

Mrs Mahmoud was accused by a senior member of staff of fraud, black magic, bullying, using dirty words and “wasting valuable office hours in idle conversation”.

Free training to get Muslim women jobs

Free training to get Muslim women jobs

Muslim mothers are to be offered free job training as part of a new government drive to combat Islamic extremism and get more women into work.

Communities Secretary Ruth Kelly today unveiled the £10 million pilot scheme as part of a wider campaign to help women break into male-dominated jobs.

All schools will be told to overhaul their careers advice to girls to encourage them into the computer, engineering and building industries.

What Did You learn Today?

Salaam

It is said that "knowledge is what you hear from the mouths of men as they only repeat the best of what they have heard"

I think it’d be useful to post tid-bits of invaluable information-religious/non religious here in this thread.

It can be stuff that you learnt in work/Uni/Mosque/in a talk/something a wise elder told you/a life experience or something that you suddenly realised.

It can be minor or major stuff. It has to be stuff that you never knew before.

Back To School

Salaam

I start on Monday full time. I’m dreading it. I enrolled yesterday and checked out my timetable…I have a couple of lectures every week that start at 9.00am and I’m so not a morning person….I also have placements scheduled in the month of Ramadan?!!

Cos I was so busy this year, my summer flew by quickly….I don’t feel that I’ve chilled enough.

I feel depressed and lonely at Uni….This year will be so jam packed that I doubt I’ll even manage to spare one day a week in my Mosque….I’m so not looking forward to returning.

Anyone else feeling the back to school blues yet?

Women face curbs in Makka mosque

Religious leaders in Saudi Arabia want to impose restrictions on women praying in the Grand Mosque in Makka, one of the few places where male and female worshippers intermingle.

But women activists in the kingdom, the birthplace of the religion and where a strict interpretation of Islam is imposed, say the idea is discriminatory and have vowed to oppose it.

At present, women can pray in the immediate vicinity of the Kaaba, a cube-shaped structure inside the mosque, believed to have been built by Ibrahim (Abraham) - seen by Muslims as a prophet - and his son.

You’ve Got Mail

Salaam

I watched that film years ago…it was basically about a guy who falls in love with a girl over the net.

Have you ever met anyone online? Have you ever considered meeting anyone online?

When speaking online, because of the absence of body language and facial expression, people become more open and reveal a LOT more than they generally would have in real life…

Are you more honest/confident online? Or do you tend not to tell the truth?
