i have to say for the first time i am abit embarassed of the revival site

looks no longer like a website of a muslim youth magazine

its lost its appeal, interest, attaction, colour............

im lost for words...

and a bit

I see where ED is coming from lol.

Seriously Admin i just had a closer look. What on earth ? It looks flat

thank you for that naj....
hopefully admin will see sense soon.... obviously my views dont count for jack here....

u see the mag...then go on the site now.... complete oppposites, sites too dull. end of...it was much much more appelaing before...

I think it been nearly 2 years since i first discovered The Revival and i have to say that in that time i have never really gone onto the Homepage till now. The newsblog is a brillant idea and well overdue IMO. I like the way the articles are set up and it easier to read. I think Admin has done a brillant job personally IMO. I may even read more articles now as well

The layout looks OK.

You now just need to work on colour and font. Make it look like a youth website. Think of the target audiance.

And the text in the 'latest articles', 'from the forums' and 'multimedia' boxes looks squashed. Seperate the lines a bit.

It looked better before (sorry, but that is as constructive my criticism will get)

Its new. It is a rapid departure from before, and at a minimum some people will dislike it because it has changed, and others will like it jst because it has changed.

Its more like a portal type of page. Colour could certainly do some work.

beast do you mean the text 'latest articles' 'from the forums' and 'multimedia', or do you mean the links below the title?

If people have been following my work on the general website suff topic, you will know I hit a brick wall with the old style. With the amount of content needed, it could not look good IMO.

There are a few flaws with it at aswell though... but I think itsno longer too busy or overwhelming.

Its a bit understated, and I think the main things people disagree with are:

1. Less images. 'Ed loves images. even if they are tacky.
2. Colour. This needs to be changed. It looks good on some monitors, but is not 'websafe', and can look off especially on TFT monitors where they cannot display enough colours.
3. change. not many people like change.

The thing is that the feature could have an image. And so could the two items in the newsblog. That would make four rather big images on the homepage if you include the one in current issue.

I am open to suggestions. I have no idea how else to fit all the info in without making it overwhelming for the visitor.

And is there anything specific that people dislike?

As a side note, the homepage has a feed.

Does anyone here use feed readers? (Firefox has a 'livemark' feature to read feeds...)

If you click on this icon: [img]

On the address bar on the homepage, it will add a 'livemark' in firefox.

It will work like a folder, but automatically update to the latest additions on the website...

The links below the title.

I could not get the from the forums links to get any distance. The other two columns originally were more spaced, but for uniformity I squashed them.

Until I figure that out how to unsquash the 'from the forums' links, they all will be squashed.

Its alot more organised than before, HCI is better.

Ed i think you're being too harsh. :? maybe u didnt realise, but admin has actually put loadsa time into that homepage...

admin the colour needs to be touched up a bit and wot happened to using those 'star trek' style fonts? i assume the current format of columns doesnt leave space for those titles? they looked good IMO. and like yuit i must admit i come here for the forums - i used to visit the homepage in the days when we had 'proboard' forums, but have never actually read an article completely...

but coz of the resurrection of the magazine, i guess we have to make the homepage really youth-friendly now coz we have loadsa newbies coming here and they are no doubt gonna go to the homepage first...

The website great in terms of usability.

I do agree on the single nav at the top.

But not too sure about the little boxes with the 'Latest Articles, Multimedia and From Forums' bit... they just look kinda outta place.

Maybe if you re-arranged them so that the pic with the latest issue is on the left with these boxes underneath them it would look better.

Ive personally never really liked the colour, but thats personal preference and not sure wat anyone else thinks.

Back in BLACK

im gonna be nice for a change

great job admin, but i voted looks worse

not because it does, but because it could look better

A LOT MORE ORGANISED....easier to find articles, and ive actually read some articles now!! (albiet the intro lol)

b4 was too hard to find, and jus kept comin across the same old ones

now i noticed theres a lot more....either i didnt look before properly, or u got some REALLY GOOD articles there now

buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut

if this wasnt a youth movement, i would have given you the Nobel Peace Prize....but it is, and it needs to look more Youf

big time

The Lover is ever drunk with love;
He is free, he is mad,
He dances with ecstasy and delight.

Caught by our own thoughts,
We worry about every little thing,
But once we get drunk on that love,
Whatever will be, will be.

Prince (firstly thanks for the politeness. i saw how you dealt with Seraph... and shot his hard work - which for once I appreciated) I think the site only has a fraction of the articles it had before.

I have not put across any articles that would also be classed as news.

I ignoresd the entire '', '[url=' and '[url=' pages as each felt like they had over 100 articles linked.

But it shows that before the articles were hidden. now they are accessible.

So how do I make the site yooftastic? (and I think my definition varies with other people's. I class it as about 18, interested. I think others class it as 12 and bored...)

and I need to change the colour... no idea what to though. Dark red attempt turned to pink...

razor what is HCI?

"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.

Im pretty sure HCI stands for Human Computer Interaction... or something similar to that.

I dont think red is a better idea. I was thinking maybe a light shade of blue. Contrasted with some darker blue (maybe navy) or purple even.

I just assumed that you had your articles stored on a database, is that not the case? Loads of articles is a good thing. Its just a case of sorting out what goes where. As i can imagine alot of stuff on the 'war on iraq','palastine' etc can all really be put under terrorism aswell.

Back in BLACK

Before I was adamant to keep the stuff in separate files. I have a suspicion of databases. They do not scream data security to me.

But I gave up and converted alot of articles, and put them into the database.

However the magazine specific pages will still be separate.

I don't like the home page at all:

Its totally unaesthetic. What a waste of space.

Morever, it is looks childish. I wonder whose kid created that ugly looking thing.

Also, it has a boring feeling to it: It lacks excitment, for men generally, and for women in particular. Without excitment women tend to wither away.

And, it is vain. There seems to be no purpose to it. It looks aimless.

Omrow

so what would you change?

How would you have it?

So far I get the impression that not many like it, but it makes you read the content more than before...

(and I have just made a few changes... the feature column in slightly slimmer... and the current issue block is wider... and has more info... comment on that in the general website stuff topic...)

I like to appreciate aestheticism in art. Not build websites.

However, have a peep at these nice looking pages:

I suggest you boys start here:

Yes i agree with you there. Does make you read the content more as its all not just squashed and stuffd up.

I dont know much about computers yea. What is a feed :?

i can say an awful lot how site can be improved but dont hav emuch time at mo...plus admin will ignore most of it...

bottom line...site lacks clour, images, attraction, jazz, uniqueness, the youth appeal.... its bland...

site was millions time better before, just needed abit of cleaning up...admin got rid of everything...

admin look at this site:

take some tips.... or i'll take ur p45 Lol

Muslim Youth is our main competition…they are the only organisation out there who do the same work as us and have the same target audience…thankfully they don’t have a magazine.

I too would like to see it looking more like that…that’s how we used to look anyway.

only diff between muslim youth and revival is that muslim youth is a LOT more liberal

Ed I do need idea's. The problem is that most of your ideas are normally sub-par, so i have to sift out through alot of erm... stuff.

Quote:

what does that mean? It is bland... but the other stuff is there for the sake of it... no meaning.

I will have a look at the muslim youth website, but I get the impression it has a younger audience?

We are not divided so clearly into sections as them... and I did originally try to just update the old stuff. It did not work. I am blank on what can be done. I can change colours, but until hit in the face byy inspiration, I do not think I can do too much.

.

but its same age group

very famous here in london

For the

I have stripped down most of the design, just leaving the content.

I think like an engineer. Structures.

WHat should be where?
