And I don't mean to brag but I'm an expert at chapati's..I've been making them since I was 11. Its the only thing I've mastered. I make them so round that they can roll of the table...and all my roti's always puff up with hot air. (And thats the sign of a perfect chapati).

I can't knead the dough though. :?

hey, same here!! i started rolling chapatis when i was 8. Lol first i used to name them according to the continent they most resembled Wink but alhumdulillah theyr now as round as can be. Biggrin

yes i believe they are perfectly circular, tho i havent measured the exact angle.

depends on wot u mean by the 'right' shade of brown, that depends on the flour used. but no i dont recall burning my chapatis!

i dunno wot flour we're using at the moment, i dont buy it.

who on earth makes a chapati just with their hands?! u cant flatten it evenly AND make it round without utilising a rolling pin!

But unfortunately they can't make chapatti. We have something like chapatti, but it is definitely not chapatti. I myself like chapatti, especially for breakfast with special sauce and greens.
By the way it is very easy to make chapatti, and very cheap too!
Big taste for small money, I like it.
Homemade chapatti with beans forever!

oookkkaayy...

somebody throw this guy a chapatti before he has a heartattack.

No need, I can make myself and not only chapatti

Lol!

Experience is vital for perfect chapatti’s.

I also used to make all sorts of weirdo shapes and sizes…hearts, cars, the shapes of countries…even cartoon characters –lol…some sides were fat, some sides were uncooked

But my darling family would eat it anything without any complaints. They didn’t even tease me which I really rated.

I’ve had my hand burned more then enough times…my dupatta had caught on fire and my bangles had got heated up.

I now know how to use different types of stoves and rolling pins.

My chapatti’s is the only thing my parents can brag about. :?

But IMO mastering chappati's is the hardest part of asian cooking.

I make crap chapati's

I've made them only once or twice-

I'm an expert at kneading the dough tho

in my house when mums not at home-its usually me who kneads the dough and sis makes the chappati's

I can boil rice though

Lol

I just like to make myself a little snack sometimes.

Beats having to go down to rat-infested take-aways around here.

so what can you do?

The easy-peasy stuff.

Toast; egg - scrambled, boiled, fried; chips, fries; fish - fried; beans

And I'm introducing myself to pasta.

Does tea count as cooking? If so, I can do that too.

Lol

lol! even i could do them

and heres me thinkin you was a chef in the making!

Everything else takes too much time and you have to get all the ingredients just right.

If I tried anything else I'd just end up chucking it away.

your getting married soon

you need to boost ur cv, learn how to cook - could be a bonus

if you dont want a wife from pakistan that is

think ive mastered lasagne

it was a disaster first three times

didnt realize you had to boil pasta sheets before you layer it with keema, sauce and veg before you put in oven.

no wonder pasta sheets always tasted uncooked

...thats probably where my sister gets it all wrong

lol Aasiyah ^^^ thats how they make in Pakistan, they flatten it a bit and then they do the bit where you flip the chappatti over between your hands (dunno what its called) to make it bigger. But it looked pretty hard to me.

i can cook curries meat or veg but i cant get the chappatis round enough  they're not that bad that they look like stars or countries but still not round like mum makes em. That and im too slow, dunno what i would do if i had to make em for unexpected guests :?

My lasagne was awful the first time too. I never tried it again.

In fact most things I try are awful the first time.

I didn't know you had to boil the sheets...no wonder they were so hard. :?

no you dont boil the sheets!!! what are you talking about thats not how it is you put in UNCOOKED sheets

you first put one layer uncooked sheet at the bottom cover with sauce then filling then another layer of uncooked sheets then sauce and so on

as long as the sauce covers all the sheets then the sheets will cook by themselves in the oven really soft and lovely

but i did that 3 times and it didnt work

my friend whos a pro at it said to boil sheets a little to soften them

mine always turned out too hard even if i covered them both sides in sauce

ms - maybe not enough sauce?

you have to put LOADS

i will ask mum later, then try to persuade her to make it over the weekend if we have any keema left.

what about sweet dishes

now that i've got over the shock of cooked sheets it actually makes sense cos if you cook them then you can trim them to fit the dish more easily

sweets i do gajar halva cos i love it
rice pudding (kheer) cos i love that even more
trifle cos i love that even more then that
vermicelli i love that too
apple rubarb crumble cos i love that more then anything

i havent tried anything adventurous i leave my brother for that and my sister does the baking pies and cakes shes really good (my pastry's too hard or too crumbly)

i remember cooking all kinds of scones in school, sweet, choc, cheese and onion

anyone remember how to make those?

sweet, can make cakes - love those. mum used to make battenburg with checked pieces in plain and pink or chocolate, looks great when you cut it

cd make kheer and mithai chaal (sweet rice) thats pretty simple

love vermicelli, especially on eid

like it with milk, or dry with sugar, yum!

Get a breadmaker.

Someone at work does that to knead the dough.
