no you're not. remember the eyes have the ability to control how much damage they want done

ie the pupil and the vitreous, they see to the light levels and adjust accordingly. If it's really doing damage you'll feel it like a headache or something. Just like you you burn you finger and you feel it because you've damaged the tissue.
