Forgiveness is the healing of wounds caused by another. You choose to let go of a past wrong and no longer be hurt by it. Forgiveness is a strong move to make, like turning your shoulders sideways to walk quickly on a crowded sidewalk. It's your move.

Salaam,

Just a quick a random question is there any Kutchi members on this site... and those of you that hav'nt got a clue Kutchi is a language and originates from Kutch in India.

Jazakallah

Wsalaam

I have a question...

Is there a difference between pride and dignity?

Like if one has an issue with taking money or anything of others....or refuses to chase people up...or has an issue with pestering someone for something if they have said NO....

Is this their pride they are so worried about preserving or their dignity?

And is there even a difference between the two?

Pride and dignity are words that almost over-lap.

Pride is basicly a persons sense of self-value and self-respect and a feeling of pleasure or satisfaction in this knowledge. Sometimes people get a little big headed coz their sense of self-value becomes increadibly high.

Dignity is similar in that its a state of being worthy of esteem/respect. But is inherently noble. But differ as Pride originate with the self whereas Dignity comes from someone else.

Bottomline: When it comes to money, i think its more of a case of haq (or your right to it). But if i had to choose, i'd say it is out of pride that some people refuse to chase up what is rightfully theirs.

Hope that helps.

Pride is if you think great of yourself

Dignity is if you don't get involved in low-class or bad things and keep your respected manner.

Lil Sis,

You doing English A-level? I jus finished my A-levels, I've done English aswell but literature not language. I didn't really want to do English but its a really good A-level to have-It really works in your favour when finding a high paying job.

Btw, what book did you study for english? In my AS year I studied persuasion...Bored the **** out of me! I have to say english literature is a really feminine subject. There was only about 3 boys in my class including me. We just sat there looking as if we were stupid whilst our teacher went on and on about the social context as it was only related to women, I got a D in my first year so maybe i should've contributed more to discussions relating to exactly why women wrote books, why they weren't married, why their status was so low, what made them think the way they do...

I've come across 1942, but none of my english teachers mentioned it nor did it come up in my literature course. I just found out about whilst watching a TV programme. They highlighted the fact that the idea of Big Brother originated from a book.

Soz for going off the topic though.

yeh I did english Lit too

I studied persuasion, othello, the rainbow, rover and streetcar

aprt from streetcar named desire all the books were crap

it was my best A level

I got a B in my first year...God knows what I'll get as a final grade

I hope u get a decent grade too

yesterday I was 20p short for the busfare so I walked the 45min home in the pouring rain-caught a cold-wasnt wearinga coat- instead of acting like a tramp and asking the kind man next to me for 20p

this is dignity-self respect

not pride

so I agree with ur definition islamic bro

pride and dignity are the same thing.

What is bad is arrogance.

Alot of people manage to mix it up with pride.

No, pride means you are proud of yourself and that is the same as arrogance

Dignity is if you be noble, keep your promises, never engage in low class or bad things.

No arrogance is being proud *of* yourself.

Salam

Pride is allowed. Arrogance is not.

God would not have a problem if you are proud of your achievments, or the success of your son.

Dignity is also good. If you lose it, you'll be considered a low life - A MOUSE !!!!

Omrow

Yeah I thought there was a difference between pride and dignity....

Having a sense of self respect is important.
