Explaining Islam

Salaam

When you are asked question about islam, do you give proper, detailed answers?

as an example whenever I get asked about why I have a beard, I reply because. I have found myself not actually giving an answer. I know I could say its compulsory, but i know the next quiestion why don't everyone have it then. and then that will open a can of worms.

So I just shrug my shoulders, and say because. or its easier than shaving everyday... or some other lame excuse.

So do you go out of your way to explain Islam?

Are all muslims 'extreme'?

Salaam

Don't just jump in and say no.

Think of it from the other side.

1. We will defend Palestine 'til the last day.
2. Ditto with Iraq, chechnya, Kashmir etc., and will argue with the mainstream media view.
3. We think homsexuality is evil.
4. If someone disagrees with some fundamentals, s/he cannot be muslim.
5. We can justify war with religion. Its called Jihad.
6. In an Islamic state Apostacy is treason, and the person is returned to god.

Now all muslims do (well... should) agree with all of the above.

President told Palestinians God also talked to him about Middle East peace.

George Bush has claimed he was on a mission from God when he launched the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, according to a senior Palestinian politician in an interview to be broadcast by the BBC later this month.

Mr Bush revealed the extent of his religious fervour when he met a Palestinian delegation during the Israeli-Palestinian summit at the Egpytian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, four months after the US-led invasion of Iraq in 200

'Muslim phone' calls faithful to prayer
Muslim phone calls faithful to prayer

Dutch Muslims are the first in Europe to benefit from a mobile phone which offers five daily prayer-time reminders, points the faithful in the direction of Mecca and has a copy of the Koran in both English and Arabic.

The Ilkone (universe) is already on sale in Asia and the Middle East, and will shortly hit the prayer mats of France, Germany, Italy, Denmark, Belgium and Bosnia.

It sounds useful, but as one Dutch Muslim, 15-year-old Mohammed Bouyeri, explained to AP: "I wouldn't buy one.

Iran

Following the Syria thread:

Iran 'behind attacks on British'

Britain has accused Iran of responsibility for explosions which have caused the deaths of all eight UK soldiers killed in Iraq this year.

A senior British official, briefing correspondents in London, blamed Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

He said they provided the technology to a Shia group in southern Iraq. The Iranians had denied this, he added.

While UK officials have hinted at an Iranian link before, this is the first specific allegation to be made.

The thirty days of Ramadan

Salaam

Ramadan is approaching.

just a couple or three days to go.

I was thinking that we all practice something new (and simple) every day of the month, that willmake us better people.

I'd say day 1: just make sure you read your prayers, and that you fast.
Day two: wake up earlier for sehri
day three: read some quran before going back to sleep.
day four: read fajr in Jamaah at your local mosque.

and yada yada.

So think of this as a community exercise.

who knows if it is good, and I can be bothered, I may add it to the site, updated every day!

82 year old calls Straw a liar; held under terrorist law
Heckler, 82, who dared called Straw a liar is held under terrorist law

Labour had to apologise to an 82-year-old activist last night after he was roughly thrown out of the party conference for heckling Jack Straw on Iraq.

he leadership faced angry protests from MPs and party members who accused it of stifling dissent and abandoning traditions of free speech.

The Foreign Secretary was telling the conference that Britain was in Iraq "for one reason only" - to help the elected Iraqi government - when Walter Wolfgang shouted: "That's a lie and you know it."
