Amigos, Amigas - Friends in Islam

What is a friend? According to the dictionary it's “a person who one knows and with who one has a bond of mutual affection". Ok, so the next question, who are our friends? Really think about it.

Who are the people that we choose to socialise with? Whose interests and goals match our own? Whose company do we love being in?

Most likely, you've started to think of those people that you've met at school, university or work, and perhaps for some of you, like me, you thought of your families too (yes seriously).

Which statement best sums up your feelings about friendship?

Strangers are just friends you haven't met yet, give a little love and it all comes back to you.

I only fully give my all to my Muslim brothers/sisters; while I am polite to others, I wouldn't take them as a close ally.

I mainly have non-Muslim friends, and find some Muslims can be a bit judgmental and don't seem to wanna have fun.

How to Loose Friends and Alienate People.

Do you sometimes feel being religious sometimes alienates you from people around you. Or even cause you to loose friends?

"No im sorry, i cant come meet you coz unrelated guys and girls cant be alone togeather."

"No im sorry, I cant go in there bcoz i dont want anything to do with a place that sells alcohol."

"Sorry I cant attend this party, coz free mixing ... not really allowed."

"No I cant look at you, anything more than a glance is strictly forebidden."

Im sure you guys can think of some of your own. But you get the general idea.

Have you ever actually sat down and thought about the people you hang around with (your bredrins!)?

Who are they? Are they alcoholics, drug dealers/addicts, wannabe G’s, playa’s? Do they regularly go clubbing? Are they involved in dodgy scams? Do they have lots of girls/boys on the line? Do they treat their parents like crap? Are they regularly involved in fights? Are they dodgy geezers?

You might be thinking “Who cares what they’re on or what they get up to- that don’t matter! We have a laugh when we get together”.
