abit confused now..the letters in the word quran are alif with hamza on top? so alif u pronounce with emptiness then the letter hamza is huroofe-halkee which u pronounce from the bottom of the throat..

and ayn is from the middle of the throat....so 'aan is from the throat isnt it?

me not making sense..

Hamza- the H of the letter Hamza is pronounced at the bottom of the throat, it sounds like H when one sighs out after deep breath. But when reading Hamza, the hamza is read as an alif, hamza is just the NAME for the letter, it is not read with h sound nor with a sound from the throat. Hamza is read as an alif and hence is read from the emptiness of the mouth.

Naj, what you on about is that when we learn the letters with correct tajweed, we are told that hamza is read with h emanating from the bottom of the throat. That is ONLY the way hamza is said, when being read hamza is alif.

and ayn, is from the throat, but it is not involved in the word Quraan so it is not relevant to reading or pronouncing the word '' Quran.''

u making perfect sense.

On an unrelated note I got a 108% on my Islam midterm.

Does that basically mean i'm a mullah or something?!

whats up with "qawf"

am I supposed to be choking on my tongue or something?!

That's the most unnatural impressively painful sounds to make

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?!

everybody should speak english - end of thought.

lol dave..

by us it is compulsory to pronounce every letter of the qur'aan correctly, if 1 cannot pronounce the letters correctly every effort must be made to do so...those who recite incorrectly and dont make an effort to improve then he will be sinful,

'QAFF'...is pronounced with the raising of the back end of the tongue and touching the soft palate,

practise makes perfect...long time back i never used to differintiate between qaff and kaaf, still working on how to recite.

& med i get it now

The Lover is ever drunk with love;
He is free, he is mad,
He dances with ecstasy and delight.

Caught by our own thoughts,
We worry about every little thing,
But once we get drunk on that love,
Whatever will be, will be.

Just had a read of their copyright.

i agree. In Islam knowledge can not be limited. it must flow freely.

(we do have a copyright... but it is within the Islamic spirit... just banning taking us out of context etc...

I do not know really what should be on there, and the legally inclined never got back to me... so it may be better removeing it altigether ([url=))

firaasah is not foresight. We claim no knowledge of the unseen.

according to Humza Yusuf it means foresight

not that u would care what his definition is

what is firaasah?

I do not know what it means. Acording to LilSis Shaykh Hamza Yusuf gave a definition.

You laughed at it, but never corrected it.

'QAFF' , prentend your really knackered so your voice is extra deep (and baritone?) then say "ahhh" like your at the dentist. With your tongue not touching any part of the upper region of your mouth as much as is possible. This is sort of the 'AFF' part of 'QAFF' but don't prolong it the way you would saying 'ahhh'.

There is every possibility I am wrong but i'm sure the good folks here will correct me if I am.

108% no thats means your teacher needs to work on his/her maths, nope thats not a spelling mistake, I did add a 's' on to 'math'...

joking of course that your teacher needs to work on their maths.
