"Verses missing from the Qur'an"

Anyone heard of this hadith?

[Narrated 'Aisha] "The verse of the stoning and of suckling an adult ten times were revealed, and they were (written) on a paper and kept under my bed. When the messenger of Allah expired and we were preoccupied with his death, a goat entered and ate away the paper."
Musnad Ahmad bin Hanbal. vol. 6. p. 269; Sunan Ibn Majah, p. 626; Ibn Qutbah, Tawil Mukhtalafi 'l-Hadith

I was guessing it's fabricated but someone said Sunnis believe in it. Not really someone I could trust... but yeah has anyone heard of it and the explanation given about it?

The question would be if it is actually there and what its chain of narrators etc is.

I've never heard that sunnis accept such things, just shias.

On the larger issue of abbrogation, there were verses revealed that had specific contexts and were replaced by other verses and that is not disputed.

Just to add, the qur'an was memoried by many sahabahs. the compilation was done not only from parchments, but also from the memories of the sahabahs and huffaaz, so even if a parchment was destroyed, the verse would still exist in these people's memories and could be cross referenced between huffaaz.

If those verses existed, they may have been abbrogated by later orders (which is in itself a "proof" that stoning is no longer allowed).

Finally, God himself guarantees the protection of the qur'an, so either that quote is mistaken, fabricated or the verses were abbrogated. There is no other option.

Thanks. I thought so.

So no where in the Qur'an does it mention stoning?

And I hope this isn't inappropriate to ask  but what does 'suckling the adult' mean? :S

if a (young) baby (that cant eat solids yet) suckles on a foster mother - the baby will become mahram and the rules of hijab will be those of family.

Some suggest that this also applies for older people including adults.

However this is explicitly covered in other ahadith where it is mentioned that someone even as a baby but not that young who is suckled does not become a mahram.

I believe its up to 2 years old that this rule of mahramazition apply.

and yeah. when the Quran was compiled, an ayah was accepted if it was memorized by someone and ritten down; and two witnesses had to be there when it had been written down to be accepted.

it was a rigorous process. and as Allah has promised to protect the Quran, its all there!

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
