Date Cake

ingredients:

180g flour

175g butter

75g sugar

4 eggs

175g dates (use date paste or can use actual dates chopped and pitted)

3 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

120ml milk

1teaspoon vanilla (optional)

Preparation:

1)sieve together the flour, baking powder and bicarbonate of soda

2)beat the sugar and butter together until fluffly and light. (with an electric mixer, much easier)

3) add eggs one by one

4)add vanilla, milk and date - beat until well mixed

5) add the flour mixture, add in 2 or 3 parts while mixing. do not mix for too long (2/3 mins)

6) bake middle shelf, 180 degrees for 40/45 mins. poke with skewer in the middle, if comes out clean then cake is ready.

7) enjoy.

i just made that cake and tasting the raw stuff was good BUT now that i have tasted the baked stuff i feel there's dates missing. so if you want it date-y then put 200g dates instead of 175g.

you can also add 60g nuts (walnut/chopped almonds or both) add it to the mixture before the flour.

maybe i'll upload a pic but im crap at doing this as i dont have one of those smart phones which makes uploading on revvy so easy.

I've never had nor heard of date cake, sounds interesting though.

Lets reunite the ummah under one flag LA ILAHA IL ALLAH MUHAMMADUR RASULULLAH

that one i personally feel had too much butter. so maybe reduce to 150g of butter or just replace with vegetable oil. next time i'll try with oil.

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?

Back in BLACK

My sister came home from Madrassah today and shared this amazing Hadith with me. I thought it would be useful to mention it in this date related topic.

Sa'd (R) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said: 'He who eats seven 'Ajwa dates every morning, will not be affected by poison or magic on the day he eats them'. (Sahih al-Bukhari).

I was about to post "I know a date cake you can buy readily - fig biscuits" and then I remembered that figs are not dates.

D'oh!
