Two months til Ramadan

Anyone looking forward to it or dreading it especially?

We are not either in rajab or almost in it - one of the four sacred months.

From Sahih Bukhari:

Narrated Abu Bakra:

The Prophet said. "(The division of time has turned to its original form which was current when Allah created the Heavens and the Earths. The year is of twelve months, out of which four months are sacred: Three are in succession Dhul-Qa' da, Dhul-Hijja and Muharram, and (the fourth is) Rajab of (the tribe of) Mudar which comes between Jumadi-ath-Thaniyah and Sha ban."

The Hizb on Muslim Unity

I was asked to put my questions of the Hib Ut Tahrir to them instead of posting them here, and I did.

Just posting my original email and the reply here as others may find it interesting.

My Email:

Salaams,

A simple question on Muslim unity.

I think unity of the ummah is a big thing and the Hizb mentions it a bit as the answer to all evils in the world. However I cannot see the hizb actually practicing this.

As an example, many people protested against the assault on the Mavi marmara last saturday. Muslims and Non Muslims alike protested against it and for the siege on Gaza to be lifted.

However the hizb did not participate and chose to have its own separate protest the very next day, on sunday?

Where is the pracitising what you preach bit?

Was the BBC coverage of the Flotilla biased?

I did send them an email when it happened, and I have a response from them:

Thanks for your e-mail.

I understand you feel that coverage of the 'Freedom Flotilla' was biased towards Israel.

The BBC places very high importance on achieving impartiality in its coverage of the Middle East and all other issues and strongly rejects allegations of bias for or against either Israel or the Palestinians.

Jewish flotilla to break Gaza siege

German Jewish group prepares flotilla to protest Israel's blockade on Gaza. 'Activists frightened, but not by Hamas,' member of organization says

The German-Jewish organization Jewish Voice for Peace in the Middle East is preparing a Jewish flotilla to the Gaza Strip. "We intend to leave around July," a member of the organization, Kate Leitrer, said to Ynet. "We have one small craft so far, in which there will be between 12 and 16 people, mostly Jews."

"Turkey killed more kurds in the past week than israel has killed palestinians in the past year"

Someone said the above to me while saying Turkey was being hypocritical - and so was the larger Muslim community by ignoring such things.

I don't have facts and figures to back up the assertion though as I did not ask.

What do you make of this?

If we are allowed to participate in politics with Non Muslims, why didn't the Prophet (saw) give the Non Muslims leadership?

Just a topic to cover a couple of points raised in this blog: http://www.votinghalalorharam.blogspot.com/

The first one is pretty simple and obvious - when the quraysh offered the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) leadership/kingship if he stopped teaching the truth, the prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) refused. Some people use this as a proof against participation in politics:

The evidences generally cited include Quranic verses and the offers of political involvement made by the leaders of Quraish to the Prophet(saw):[218]

“And the believers, men and women, are protecting friends (allies) one of another” (Quran 9:71)
“And incline (or accept) not to those who do wrong, or the Fire will seize you; and you have no protectors other than Allah, nor shall you be helped” (Quran 11:113)
