If that were me i wud be well peeved off. Cant believe they dont give feedback. How is someone suppose to know where they went wrong. I say ring em up and demand they give you feedback lol.

Its hard to crack Manchester, i thought London would have been easier coz they got more firms down there.

It wasnt exactly law-related, but you are right, vacancies are more down south. Im tryna find some legal experience now, and there are very few vacancies up here compared to down there. I think ive done enough security work for now! Working doesnt suck, my job is alryt and easy. Watch shows and the audience, get paid. Come home, no deadline and exam worries. But i guess i need to get back to studying, carry on with the plan inshallah. Yup i meant this september coming. You doing any legal work?

Some places...ahem...dont provide feedback. I was aware of that before i applied anyway. What i dont get is what point i may have not passed on. I was told i would know how the interview went in 2-3 weeks....it was 2-3 days when the letter came home. Some things are for the better anyway. One good thing is tho, my Urdu defo improved coz of it. I know all my urdu numbers now!!

Ive tried to find work as a paralegal or legal secretary but nothing. Applied to do voluntary work at CAB, just finished my training as a advisor. Started yesterday was really tiring and stressful but then again only had 2 hours kip! I thought having studied law it would have helped but no it doesnt. Most the clients came in with debt problems and benefits and i dont have a clue. InshAllah once i get into the swing of it wont be too bad. Plus if I do it for the year will knock off 6 months from my training contract.

It is because I finished my exams at the end of April and they were all in one week! April was the busyest month for as I had to hand in couple of assignments and stright after I had exams!!!

Supreme Court condemns Guantanamo

America's highest court has delivered a catastrophic blow to George Bush's policy of locking up terror suspects without charge in Guantanamo Bay.

The US Supreme Court dismissed the legal basis upon which the Bush administration has interned nearly 300 inmates at the American naval base in Cuba and granted the prisoners the right to challenge their detention on the US mainland.

Lawyers for the inmates, including the British resident Binyam Mohamed, are now expected to file fresh claims for release in the US federal courts.

Britain is among a growing number of US allies who supported George Bush's war on terror after the attacks on America in 2001 but now want to see the prison camp closed. Gordon Brown is expected to discuss the subject during the President's state visit to Britain next week.

Yesterday's majority 5-4 ruling was the Bush administration's third setback since 2004 at the highest US court over its treatment of prisoners who are being held indefinitely and without charge or fair trial.

The court has ruled twice previously that Guantanamo inmates could go into civilian courts to challenge their continued detention. But each time, the Bush administration and Congress, then controlled by Republicans, changed the law to keep the detainees out of civilian courts.

Brushing aside arguments that the suspects were enemy combatants held at a time of war, the court said yesterday that the detainees had, "the constitutional privilege of habeas corpus", the right of detainees under the US constitution to have their cases heard by an independent judge or be freed. Justice Anthony Kennedy said: "The laws and constitution are designed to survive, and remain in force, in extraordinary times."

Judges, law clerks and court administrators were desperate to read Judge Kennedy's 70-page opinion yesterday as they work out how to proceed. Chief Judge Royce C Lamberth will call a special meeting of federal judges to address how to handle the cases.

Clive Stafford Smith, director of the human rights group Reprieve, said he would be looking at the judgment to see whether he could use it to seek the suspension of the military prosecution of Binyam Mohamed, a 29-year-old Londoner who has been held by the Americans for six years.

Last week, five detainees, including Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, allegedly "the principal architect of the 9/11 attacks", appeared before a military tribunal in Guantanamo Bay.

Reprieve said the logical conclusion of the Supreme Court ruling would be the release of all the inmates and the closure of Guantanamo Bay. Zachary Katznelson, the group's legal director, described the judgment as, a great victory: "After this ruling, Guantanamo Bay prisoners have the right to say: you made a mistake with me – set me free."

Mr Stafford Smith said the decision did not resolve everything in favour of the prisoners. "This is a catastrophic blow for George Bush's secret prisons policy," he said. "The Bush administration has had three strikes in the US courts – and they're out. But the prisoners still have a long way to go."

"Gordon Brown must recognise that this does not move Binyam Mohamed any closer to freedom. It will be a long while yet before the promise of this decision becomes a reality.

"The simple fact is that Binyam and the rest of the 270 prisoners will continue to languish in prison unless their governments stand up for them."

Amnesty International also called on Mr Brown to use his influence with Mr Bush to close the camp. In particular, the Prime Minister is being asked to press for guarantees of a safe trial – "in an ordinary civilian court" – or safe releases for three Guantanamo prisoners who are either formerly resident in the UK or have with links to the UK.

Bush acknowledges that "misinformation and propaganda" sully the US image overseas, as he appeals for Italy's help on Iran and Afghanistan.

"There's a lot of, in my view, misinformation and propaganda about our country. We're a compassionate; we're an open country," said the US president in his farewell tour to Europe before leaving White House as president.

Speaking to young entrepreneurs attending a US exchange program ahead of talks with Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi, Bush said this was the way to learn "the truth about America."

Bush who spoke at the Villa Aurelia, home to the American Academy in Rome, was greeted with a number of protestors, shouting " Bush Go Home" in English, a day after about 1,000 people staged an anti-Bush demo against his visit.

The outgoing US president, unpopular in Europe for Iraq invasion, came to Rome to seek more help from Italy in Afghanistan and call on Rome for turning the heat up on Iran for its nuclear programs mainly because Iran is Italy's largest trade partner in Europe.

The United States has pressed on Iran to freeze its uranium enrichment, which it says is aimed at developing clandestine program to build nuclear weapons, a claim denied by Tehran.

The Islamic Republic says the country is a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and its nuclear program is merely for civilian purposes.

They are both different countries, how can it be the same. Many of the Arab countries use Dirham.

I studied arabic in Damascus in the the language centre damascus university was amazing experience i lived there for 6 months and go back alot and also travel alot to middle east and egypt cos now i am alhamdullilah fluent. The thing with arabic is you have to have the niyyat/intention to study it and also u got to decide what kind arabic u want to learn is it Modern Standard Arabic (QuraniC) or dialects (like egyptian, levant) cos they not the same.

I disagree. That seems to imply that "born Muslims" do not recite the adhan from their hearts - when many do. It also seems to imply that "converts/reverts" dont have beautiful voices, when many do. In fact, many converts/reverts make the effort to go and study tajweed so that they are able to pronounce Arabic correctly - and then speak Arabic as if they were born into a family of Arabic speakers! (prime example Sk Hamza Yusuf). Personally, I find it very cute when I hear adhan being called by people with different tajweed and accents in between - I really appreciate the effort that they make in calling the adhan - I am sure that they do deeply desire to pronounce the Arabic perfectly, and were they able to do so, they would. Its a reminder of the diversity of our beautiful ummah.

I remember a scholar once mentioning that whilst a person may be pronouncing the Arabic without the full tajweed, they are pronouncing it to the best that they are able to do - Allah swt will not punish us for what is not within our control, right? As long as they are making the effort is what I think should be considered and emphasised, not something that may be beyond their control.

I agree with the sentiment, but I think it is a muezzin's duty to learn proper tajweed!
