If your happy and you know it clap your hands!

Salaams ppl,
Over the years ive been to several award ceremonies, theatre performances and non Islamic guest speaker talks at uni. At the end of the ceremony, performance or talk it is courteous to applaud and sometimes even stand up and applaud. From my observations I have noticed that not many Muslims applaud and I have always put this down to arrogance. However, the very few Islamic lectures that I have attended there is no applauding at the end of the session, rather we say the Takbir. This got me thinking maybe clapping isnt allowed in Islam. How many of us clap to show our gratitude? How many of us dont clap? If you dont then what are your reasons?

Your thoughts ppl.

Celibacy Key to Long Life

[quote]

A BRITISH virgin who celebrated her 105th birthday this week said the secret to long life was celibacy, adding that she imagined sex was a "lot of hassle".
Clara Meadmore, who marked her birthday with a drop of wine at the Perran Bay nursing home in Cornwall, south-west England, also received a card from Queen Elizabeth II.

"People have asked me whether I am a homosexual and the answer is no," Ms Meadmore said.

"I have just never been interested in sex.

"I imagine there is a lot of hassle involved and I have always been busy doing other things."

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1903, Meadmore lived in Canada and New Zealand as a child before returning to Britain in her 20s to work as a secretary and housekeeper.

Muslim sues Tesco for making him carry beer

A Muslim worker is suing Tesco for discrimination after being asked to transport beer on his forklift truck.

Mohammed Ahmed claims he was in effect forced from his job because managers refused to accept that handling alcohol offended his beliefs.

The 32-year-old, raised in Saudi Arabia, told a tribunal he had never visited a Tesco store and had no idea it sold alcohol when he took on the role.

But he admitted shopping at Sainsbury's, Lidl and Asda and seeing alcohol on sale there.

It was, 'reasonable to expect him to be aware of what Tesco did', said company lawyer Laura Canham, accusing him of giving out mixed messages by suggesting at one point he could handle Budweiser.

Wigs!

Is it haram to wear a wig over the hijab?

Cos there used to be a Muslim women barrister in my old workplace, but I didn't think it was polite to ask if she put the white wig on top of her hijab.

Wigs and Hairpieces
In the category of female adornments, the addition of any other hair, real or artificial, to one's own hair—that is, the wearing of wigs and hairpieces—is also prohibited.
It is reported by al-Bukhari on the authority of 'Aisha, her sister Asma, Ibn Mas'ood, Ibn 'Umar, and Abu Hurairah that "The Messenger of Allah (peace be on him) cursed al-wasilah and al-mustawsilah," al-mustawsilah," wasilah denoting a woman whose profession is making wigs and hairpieces' and mustawsilah a woman who uses them.

Eid in the park

In an effort to create unity and common ground amongst Muslims in the region there are plans for Eid prayers to be held in a public park, Asian Image can reveal.

It is hoped the event, the first of its kind to be held outside of London, will mark a sea change in opinion about where Eid is prayed and when Eid is held.

Organisers are also hoping the move will help to change the image of Muslims amongst the wider community as to how the Eid festival is celebrated.

But there have been reservations from some Muslims as to how the event will be held and what activities are planned for the day. Eid may fall on the same day for many Muslims this year.
