Denmark bans halal and kosher slaughter as minister says ‘animal rights come before religion’

Denmark’s government has brought in a ban on the religious slaughter of animals for the production of halal and kosher meat, after years of campaigning from welfare activists.

The change to the law, announced last week and effective as of yesterday, has been called “anti-Semitism” by Jewish leaders and “a clear interference in religious freedom” by the non-profit group Danish Halal.

Sheesha Bars - The Muslim Club OR Another Hub?

VOICE OF THE MUSLIM YOUTH:

Areeba Khalid, 25, Derby

I can’t believe some of the fuss that is being made about shisha bars. I think people would have a stronger point if they said shisha is Haram because it is bad for you by backing it up with evidence. Saying it is haram because of the environment (intermixing/music) – in my opinion sounds a little bit ridiculous. It’s like saying going to school/town/any other café is Haram because of what COULD happen. We live in a country and a society where intermixing/ background music is pretty normal. We’ve all been to schools and the majority of us work in such environments.

i don't personally listen to music anymore and haven't for some time. saying that every now and then i stumble across a piece of music that appeals to me because of the lyrics themselves.

i believe music is haram but i do sometimes listen to a certain song because of what the person is saying in their lyrics. do you think it makes me a hypocrite by doing this.

i always tell my friends to stop listening to music but then sometimes, once in a longtime i listen to it just once and enjoy what the person is saying.

Halal tourism in France

Salam Alikoum,

We are three students and we are realizing a research work on the possible synergies between tourism and Islam. This survey (very short) will help us validate our work hypothesis. We are trying to define the needs of muslim travelers coming to France.
If you are muslim, please take two minutes to answer our survey, it would be really nice!

Thanks!

Religion and (medical) Drugs

The Health Department are generally always trying to tailor around their Patient's need ( I know that this does not always happen).

So earlier this year, the publication that was printed:
Religion and Belief: A practical guide for the NHS.

I'm just scanning through some writing, and it says here:

In the United Kingdom, the right to follow your religion and beliefs is protected under article 9 of the Human Rights Act 1998, which covers freedom of thought, conscience, and religion.

I didn't know this but people who follow the Jehovah's Witness refuse blood products because of their beliefs.

Anyway, coming back to what I really made this thread for:

Should Muslims Eat Meat?

Interesting blog post by my South African friend. Please note, this is not abut if meat is 'halal' for us, it quite clearly is, but whether it is ethical to eat meat NOW, when the world has changed a lot since 1400 years ago. PLEASE read fully before commenting.

Why I’m a vegetarian
by Bilal Randeree

I don’t believe that animals should not be killed for human consumption. In fact, I think that God has most definitely provided certain animals for man — some to assist us in our daily tasks and others to provide us with the nutrients and proteins (isn’t that what meat supplies?!) that eating meat provides.

Can you work in a place which sells haram food or alcohol?

Answer by Shaykh Salim Giza

In the name of Allah the most Beneficent and Merciful.

Working in a place that sells Alcohol or Haram food carries a different ruling depending upon the circumstances. Generally it is Haram for a Muslim to work in a place which sells Alcohol or serves Alcohol in it's premises. The same applies for Haram food as the general ruling is; what is Haram to you is also Haram to others', whether they believe it or not.

Our scholars state:

"Anything haram to use oneself is haram to give to another." [Ibn Nujaym, al-Ashbah; Majalla]
