Urgent Action in the Event of War

It has become clear that the Prime Minister has decided to defy public opinion, international law and the will of the international community, to join hands with the United States in launching an attack on Iraq within the next few days that will undoubtedly kill thousands of innocent civilians.

The appeals for peace and the calls to spare the lives of Iraqis who have for long suffered as a result of our short-term self-serving foreign policies, seem to have fallen on deaf ears. The chance to turn away from war and violence has been wasted, and as a result a more dangerous and destabilised world is in our midst.

Yet the movement which has grown beyond everyone's wildest expectations and has brought to the fore the problematic area of British foreign policy, hypocrisy and double standards, will continue to work to prevent a war until the first bullet is fired.

And when that happens, the peace movement will work even harder to bring about a cessation of killings and an end to military attacks on the people of Iraq.

In this respect, THE REVIVAL along side other Islamic movements and organisations calls the Muslim community and the people of Britain to join its activities held in coordination and collaboration with Stop the War Coalition and CND, as follows:

  1. To demonstrate in all towns and cities at 6pm on the day that war is declared.
  2. To join the rest of Britain in demonstrating in London on Saturday 22nd March, where demonstrators will gather at Embankment at 12 noon before marching towards Hyde Park for the peace rally.
  3. To write to your MP using www.faxyourmp.com – they are accountable to you so demand that they represent your views strongly in Parliament. Ask them to discuss their opinions in a public meeting that you can arrange for fellow constituents.

Times of difficulty require determination, resolve and devotion. Let us remember that thousands will be killed, wounded and made homeless as a result of this unjust and illegal war. Let us do our utmost to bring this madness and murder to an end.
