Shooting The Messenger

Salaam

Nowadays instead of listening to the CONTENT of someone's message, people begin to criticise the messenger.

Why do people do this? Is it because they’re just looking for an excuse not listen to the truth?

If someone says something that’s true, one should listen to it.

Does it really matter if the person or their family conveying the message does or doesn’t do it themselves? No one’s perfect in every respect.

There’s this Mosque teacher I know who used to teach me many years ago, her daughter has totally gone astray, so now whenever she lectures/preaches others, people are quick to respond with a “sort your own daughter out first”.

What’s the point? What her daughter does/doesn’t do doesn’t change the truth.

People are so quick to attack the preacher and get into their personal life. Sometimes I think that such a tactic is used in order to justify continuing sin….you know insult the messenger so that you don’t have to listen to the message.

When one hears the truth that bears heavily on their soul, its human nature to try and find fault in it…… and sometimes when searching for weakness in the argument, the focus can shift to the messenger….which results to comments such as “Look at your own daughter, before you tell others what to do” or “What does he know, he was an addict back in the day” or “You can’t talk, cos your not perfect yourself”.

BUT on the other hand wouldn’t it be correct to say that one needs a certain amount of credibility in order to preach and have a positive effect on others?

Does all of the above fall under the “practise what you preach” category?

If one does not pray/cover/fast/give charity etc etc are they really in a position to be telling others what to do? But then again is anyone perfect in every aspect?

And why DO people find fault in the messenger? Why do people get personal and so critical? Are they finding excuse’s to avoid listening to the truth?

Do instances ever arise when shooting the messenger could ever be justified? (not literally of course)

Share your thoughts.

Wasalaam

some time ago my mum told me that some lady who lives down the road was backchatting a friend of mine

i became SO mad and told mum that the lady should look at her stupid daughter who has gone astray before she has the nerve to cuss others

people who's own kids are messed up have NO RIGHT to chat about others

I was SO angry at mum for not saying this to her

big deal if my friend has gone astray, most girls do at that age...but she aint half as bad as the gossipy big mouth's lady's own daughter

such messenger DESERVE to be shot

That usually happens when the person recieveing the message doesnt like it. and will take out his/her rage onto the person who brought the bad message.

A simply means of venting anger. I dont think it has much to do with the validity of the message it can be true or untrue and still the messenger will get shot, bcoz the recievng person is simply venting anger or frustration.

Now you know why you should NEVER work as a messanger.... or as a Dominos Pizza Delivery Boy.

I would answer yes to that.

A preacher who is a known hypocrite will have little positive effect on his audience, at best.

At worst, he will turn them into hypocrites as well.

Actions speak loader than words.

Preacher has gotta be the genuine article.

my cousin from up north used to "shoot" the messenger whenever they used to grass him up to his parents

his mum used to beat him up whenever someone complained about him

i could see where he was coming from-people shud look at their own kids

Yeah, this is something that make me vary when i talk to anyone. Because it so easy to be a critic, so when talking too people, it best to try to be positive rather then negative. But saying that, today people have all the answer and will try to aviod all that good for them. You need to be strong will to talk to anyone about islam and able to take criticism.

I know when i didn't used to practice islam, i always used to find fault in everyone who did, just to make myself feel better. But saying that, i heard one shaykh talk about the current situation and he explain it nicely when he said today, muslim who go to teh mosque think that they saved and look down on anyone who doesn't and the same is of the people who don't who tend to find all the fault in people who do go.

I think that there need to be a balance and as muslim, we should stop trying to be so critical. It better to just plant a seed in a person then give them all teh answer, because there more benefit when someone come across the truth on their own rather then being told by someone. I look back now on what people said 5-7 years ago and think they were right, but because of their method, but i never thought so at the time.

Just commenting on the thread i missed when i wasn't here. It look like i not the only one

The seed analogy is good for one reason, it allow the other person to think he still in control and he still thinking for himself. The problem i had at school was that the teacher would normally think for me and tell me everything that was wrong with me, when in reality i needed to do that for myself as part of my development. All you really should do is help them along, but very few people can master this technique IMO.

Ah u know what they say if the dog wants to bark he shall continue doing so, no way to shut it up...

I hate people who slander others its a sick thing to do.

VERY good point angel

sumtimes its best to let the dogs bark

but to me-this is a very touchy matter

even tho my parents are top people-they dont listen to other people's crap

them who slander me become my worst enemy's for life

It best to overlook the fault of others as it something that we would expect people do for us as well. The amount of time people have made their bad behaviour excusable because in their eyes they not as bad as someone esle is worrying. I think it a special quality which not all people have, which is a pity

I get G'd up to my parents 24/7. There's bare girls out there. I would never grass up someone elses daughter though.

Btw I've dumped the guy. He was still in contact with his ex's. I'm hurting and in pain and have vowed to stay of guys forever.

Oh man i'm sorry - that's a rotten deal.

Can't say I'm surprised, but it's good that you found out now rather than say after a marriage a baby down the line.

Understandable.

Unfortunately once trust like that has been broken... never the same you are.

But you'll be the stronger for it, focus on prayers, clear your mind... when your at peace... and your mind is passive... ready will you be.
