Israel elections: Tzipi Livni ahead but still unsure of power

Israel’s future leadership hung in the balance last night after early results from the general election showed that Tzipi Livni, the centre-right Kadima party chairwoman, was narrowly ahead – but perhaps not enough to be able to form a new government.

According to projections based on nearly 90 per cent of the votes counted, Ms Livni, the Foreign Minister and a former Mossad agent, had won 29 seats in the 120-seat parliament, while Binyamin Netanyahu, the former Prime Minister who leads the right-wing Likud party, was heading for 27.

The exit polls and early count came as a surprise after final preelection surveys had indicated that Mr Netanyahu would win by two seats.

Salam

Why do the intelligent Israeli people go and pick thugs like Lieberman?

I just dont know. The guy is a racist.

Livni is alright. At least she is pretty.
Now she has to unzip for Lieberman to get anywhere.

Natenyaho is not too smart either. He has already had one run at the office.
He wants a second chance to prove himself. Thats terrible. "Please give me one more go."

And poor Barak. He recieved a bad hammering on election day.
He was in charge of the army which lost to Hamas in Gaza.
