Learn Arabic?

How many of you have learnt arabic?

I mean undertand arabic, not read it.

I used to know quite a bit of arabic, but unfortunately I have forgotten most of it.

Is it important to you?

I think it is important. As an example, when reading the qur'an, I used to understand parts of what was actually written. The rest I could make out from translation.

I have lost this ability, with my loss of arabic.

i actually studied arabic at boarding school but unfortunatly 4 gotten it 2 Sad

Arabic is not important.

For ordinary Muslims, it is neither necessary nor ordained to learn the Arabic language at all.

However, I do think that it is useful to know Arabic.

But then again, French and Spanish are more useful.

Omrow

I think arabic would be an excellant language to know, my cuz is studin arabic in syria at the mo. I think it just helps when you have done an indepth study to understand the Quran and various classical books that are in arabic..i would hate to know arabic and then forget it...

God said in the Koran that he has created all languages like he has created us. You can get a copy of the Koran in every single language, but there is nothing like reading it in its original language. If you learn Arabic you get to enjoy the literature of the Koran but of cause the Koran is guidance and not entertainment….

What you put in the hearts of others; is what goes back into your own heart…

Salaam

I tried learning it once but then I gave up...

I found Arabic grammar way too hard.

And my Arabic teacher had no patience with me either.

This is something that I should add on my "to do" list.

I picked up a lot of Arabic on my visits to Saudi...but I've noticed that spoken/common Arabic is very different to the type of Arabic that the Holy Qu'ran is written in.

Wasalaam

I've been learning Arabic in mosque for the last 5 years

someone called her "ya habibi" and that joker thought it meant "excuse me" Biggrin Biggrin

so she started using that phrase to everyone who knocked her over

(we did Umrah in Ramadan-it was very very crowded)

she found out when we returned what "ya habibi" really meant

she was SO embarrsed Biggrin

Maybe you can translate An'a a hibuk and ya'llah ya'llah for me.

I know "Ana" means "I am"

so maybe Ana hibuk means "I'm fine/I'm Ok" (wild guess)

I dont know what "ya'llah" means?

(hurry up? :? )

I'm working on arabic... took a couple classes.

Had an egyptian professor teaching us - told us all kinds of funny stories about the "other" arabs.

Apparently Egyptian Arabs are the best of the breed and the rest are all blockheads.
