Yea... I get the feeling it is part of any kinda caste-like or aristocratic system.

New group replaces al-Muhajiroun

A new group has been formed to replace radical Islamic cleric Omar Bakri Mohammed's al-Muhajiroun group, which was disbanded last year.

Ahl ul-Sunnah Wa al-Jamma was launched in a north London charity shop, with leading member, Simon Sulayman Keeler, calling the Queen "an enemy of Islam".

The convert to Islam said she was head of a country that attacked Muslims.

The controversial new group is formed of ex-leaders of al-Muhajiroun, widely condemned by most British Muslims.

Joining Mr Keeler at the launch of Ahl ul-Sunnah Wa al-Jamma was Anjem Choudary, the former UK head of al-Muhajiroun, Abu Yahya, Abu Izzadeen and Abu Uzair.

The group, which claims to have up to 1,000 followers, said its purpose was the peaceful propagation of Islam, which included attending university fairs, and that it was not a "jihadi movement".

Couldn't these half-wits have chosen a less all-encompassing name for themselves?

they could have tried a name that is not already used...

Or I could just pick my claymore up off the wall, give it a quick wipe down and take every one of them out.

Then I'm going to cross the channel on the back of whale and make war on France, rioters and home secretaries. Then i'll probably walk to Jordan and start the real fighting, according to a mate of mine (who's Iranian but for all intents and purposes Iraqi) the insurgents in Iraq are Jordanians who are angry that they're not getting any free Iraqi oil (apparently Saddam used to give free oil to the Jordanians) and so anyway they would have an appointment with mister claymore too.

This isn't funny.

Giant mosque for 40,000 may be built at London Olympics

A MASSIVE mosque that will hold 40,000 worshippers is being proposed beside the Olympic complex in London to be opened in time for the 2012 Games.

The project’s backers hope the mosque and its surrounding buildings would hold a total of 70,000 people, only 10,000 fewer than the Olympic stadium.

Its futuristic design features wind turbines instead of the traditional minarets, while a translucent latticed roof would replace the domes seen on most mosques. The complex is designed to become the “Muslim quarter” for the Games, acting as a hub for Islamic competitors and spectators.

“It will be something never seen before in this country. It is a mosque for the future as part of the British landscape,” said Abdul Khalique, a senior member of Tablighi Jamaat, a worldwide Islamic missionary group that is proposing the mosque as its new UK headquarters.

Tablighi Jamaat has come under scrutiny from western security agencies since 9/11. Two years ago, according to The New York Times, a senior FBI anti-terrorism official claimed it was a recruiting ground for Al-Qaeda. British police investigated a report that Mohammad Sidique Khan, leader of the July 7 London bombers, had attended its present headquarters in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.

The east London complex would have by far the largest capacity of any religious building in Britain. The biggest at present is the Baitul Futuh in Morden, Surrey, which holds about 10,000 worshippers.

The complex would include a garden, school, library and accommodation for visiting worshippers.

Islamic calligraphy would cover the walls and ceilings, the washing areas would have cascading water to mimic a stream, and the complex’s buildings would be adapted to allow extra worshippers during festivals such as Eid, accommodating a further 30,000 visitors.

Ali Mangera, the London and Barcelona-based architect who is designing the mosque, said: “Islam has traditionally been at the forefront of technology and change. The Markaz will reflect this. It will be more than a mosque.”

Mangera has previously worked with leading British architects including Zaha Hadid, designer of the Cardiff opera house. Mangera and Tablighi Jamaat are in negotiations with Newham council, the Greater London Authority and the Thames Gateway Development Corporation for planning permission.

It is estimated that the project would cost more than £100m and donations are being sought from Britain and abroad.

...what the hell?

lol okay I think Britain has made their "tolerance point" - we get it, yall are nice to muslims while the rest of the world pales in comparison.

But a 40,000 seat mosque just for one group of people at the Olympics seems a bit unusual doesn't it? Partitioning people off by nation is natural since it's the olympics... but by religion?

Is there anything particularly offensive about nonmuslims that muslims would have a religious need to be seperated from them at the Olympics?

...err hang on - maybe that's the idea, put all the muslims in a box and keep an eye on them?

lol something about this seems a little fishy... it's a bit out of the ordinary

Is this actually being done by the British government or is this just some islamic missionary's idea?

It seems to be an idea proposed to the government by the Tableeghi Jama'at.

Commendable thoughts, but my question is wether it would remain useful after the games?

I do nopt think they could get anynear 40,000 attendants regularly...

However it could be split up and there be a cultiral museum, library, an entertainment centre... gym... courses...

If such a project is carried out, it should not be in control of one group.

"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.

At the mo it is just a proposal. Talks are underway for planning permission etc.

It's a non-gov initiative. As the article says £100 million will be sought in donations.

What I find interesting is that it won't have a dome and it'll have a wind turbine instead of a minataret. Wierd, yet futuristic and eco-friendly.

dome is not necessary.

It was historically used to project th voice (I think).

Now we have loudspeakers.

Minaret is a novel idea. Lets hope it can power the whole mosque... a symbol of practical green design...

..But are wind turbines not loud?

And if you are worrying about the look of traditional wind turbines, I have seen a mockup of a french design which would IMO be perfect.

However if they are looking for 100million in donations; I feel they have lost their minds.

Not that they cannot do it, but because there are far better ways to spend the money.

lol... ohh boy.

This sounds suspiciously similar to the stuff Jerry Falwell does. He basically builds entire community complexes into his "mega-churches" so he can indoctrinate people with the gospel according to Jerry.

Especially with all the natural disasters in the last year - and the criticism of donations from muslim states.

I think Saudi pledged something like 30m to the Tsunami and only gave 10.

pledge/actual donations it has been similar with most countries.

I'm sure the Saudis will dig deep if their puritanical, uncompromisingly rigid version of... er I mean... if their athletes are well accomodated for.

Yea there was a big segment about it in the new National Geographic. Ironically most of the European states donated and committed fully - while the EU itself (like the US) pledged big time and didn't pull through even 70 percent. I think we've only given 150 of the 300 million, but they did note for most of those states which haven't fully committed their pledge that they haven't indicated if their pledges were for immediate relief or long term investment and rebuilding.

I think their point about the oil states was that they were definitely in a position to offer more than 10 million but chose not to.

Yall might find your religion extinct after a year or so of this being up and running.

Sort of like me back home.

COOL Dirol

erm... what do you think we were discussing?

you just reposted the same article!

fwiw this can be both good and bad.

IMO £100 mill could be better spent than on a mosque that would be virtually abandoned after the olympics.
