It's Fajr time! (Part 2)

Continuing from

After two more nights of going to the countryside (this time, to the Saddleworth Moors), a few things have become certain:

  1. The M62 was made by the devil - its in the direction of the horizon, so some of the light seen on the horizon is probably from the motorway.
  2. Its nice and breezy up there in the countryside, especially compared to the overheated towns.
  3. It's never truly dark in the summer.
  4. If you turn the car lights off, be prepared for occasional traffic - you will want to turn on the lights before it drives into your vehicle!

Yesterday, a period of time just before half 2 and just before 3 was spent on the Moors. Some light could be seen on the horizon and while it was hard to notice it increase, there was the perception that it had gotten slight lighter between half 2 and 2.50.

On the way home, between 2.50 and 3.10, the colour of the sky rapidly changed into lighter shades of blue.

Tonight, the same location was visited at an earlier time - from just after 1 to around half 1. While it was pitch black and there was some light on the horizon that was possible the M62, there was no noticeable change in lighting conditions, which correlates to the very first night.

Considering all that, as it never goes fully dark, it is a judgment call for which formula is used to calculate Fajr. As the different methods of calculating Fajr time all have some validity when the night is never fully dark, a judgment call is needed to decide when Fajr starts. People are free to follow the different methods and no blame should be case for following any of them.

In relation to the "middle of the night" method, I personally (with my non-scholarly reasoning) do not think that it should be forced on others as it is a method of extreme caution and often combined with a late Fajr just to cover the eventuality that it was not fajr time yet. From the Sunnah we are informed that when the prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) was presented two (valid/allowed) options, he Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) chose the easier one.

I am happy with the timetable used by my local mosque, which as Sehri ending and Fajr time starting around half 2.

LOL

I want to try this out, we're supposed to be able to tell when each prayer starts by looking at the sun and not simple rely on timetables aren't we. Be at one with nature and all that.

i hope im not in this country when Ramadan reaches those "wee bit longer" days.

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?

It won't be that much of a difference I think. After the following two Ramadhan's I think it'll start to become more shorter and go backwards instead of later into the evening.

Nice pics! - including the ones in the other thread Smile

Biggrin Thank you. I think they're more than just "nice" but thats because I'm being bias.

I really like the first one, the contrast between the moon shining so brightly and that pretty blue.

I don't think much of the second kind of picture anyway tbh. They don't look pretty to me Wacko

I love the moon.

Last week I tried standing in my garden to take a picture of the moon, it didn't work out and didn't look as nice as I wanted it to look. By the way, what camera do you use?

Ah okay. See, i wanted to get one similar to that but i came home yesterday to find that my sister and dad had already bought a new one, the more compact, slim, easy to take around with you sort.
