I HATE PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF AFFECTION and I want to be part of CHArity Week for the REst of my Life http://www.onecharityweek.com/cms/
The ultimate vision of Charity Week is to become a vehicle to inspire Muslim students to become active, socially engaged and united upon Islam. Raising money to help countless Orphans & Needy Children across the World - a beautiful bonus!
the different with this charity, is that the money comes AFTER. is all about the unity.
at the briefing some guy (edit: it is now 2013 and i'm reading this and this "guy" is actually Brother Wajid. the FOUNDER of charity week. just felt the need to correct that) used an awesome metaphor. "if my house was burning and you came up to me and said "ahh im sorry man, here's a glass of water" *throws glass of water* how is that going to help? and then you tell me "ahh dont worry, ahmad down the road..he has another glass for you.." or this family, they're a bit more generous, here's a watercanfull. and Ali, ali he's coming next week with maybe a mug! am i going to thank you? is my house going to stop burning like this?"
And Mr Sceptical; i know the defect and limitations of this metaphor, no need to point them out. That is all.

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
Charity is good.
but to be good at charity you need strong foundations, so first step is making yourself capable of being good at it, making yourself successful in this life in order to allow you to be extravagant in charity too, allowing you to make a greater difference.

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
No, unrelated.
It is just common sense - you cant help others when you are the one that needs help. You need to make yourself strong enough first.
