‘Equal but different.’

Discuss how adequately this sums up the relationship between males and females in Islam.

Many people believe that because of the similarities between men and women, they should be, and are, completely equal and should be treated so. Other people however believe that because of the natural physical and mental differences, they can never be fully equal and that should be respected. Other people however, maintain that equality is an abstract relative concept and so full equality can never be achieved because we’ll never agree on what constitutes true equality.

(Essay) Explain why there are different understandings of the role of women in Islam.

There are many ‘misconceptions’, all over the world, about the Islamic understanding of women. Misconceptions is emphasised because the nature of the Qur’an and Sunnah is such that it is so complex and intricate that it is open to many interpretations. However, on certain things, the Qur’an or the Sunnah make it completely explicit, for instance that men and women are equal in the eyes of God because souls are without gender

Also, many people in ‘the west’ take the treatment of women in ‘Muslim’ countries to define how Islam commands women be treated, however some of this is more cultural than religious. In fact, Muslim women have had rights for over 1400 years that were only granted to Western women in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Three blind men and an Elephant.

Topic: Do all paths lead to the same God?

"Imagine, for example, that three blind men are touching an elephant. The first blind man is holding on to the elephant's leg. He explains, "I think an elephant is like the trunk of a great tree." The second blind man disagrees. "No, I believe an elephant is like a snake," he says while holding the elephant's trunk. The third blind man responds, "No, you both are wrong, an elephant is like a wall." (He is touching the elephant's side.) Each blind man thinks he is right and that the others are wrong even though all three of them are all touching the same elephant. In a similar way, is it not possible that all religions are in contact with the same ultimate reality and merely describe it in different ways?"

Rawry's blog: My camel has gone astray

"God leads astray those he will"

I was just thinking about that because of the Yazid topic.

So i researched it and found this site:

It's pretty good, but i'll just take the best points and add my own.

“We sent not a messenger except (to teach) in the language of his (own) people, in order to
make (things) clear to them. So Allah leads astray those whom He pleases and guides whom
He pleases and He is exalted in power, full of wisdom.” (surah 14:4) page 31

Well the site says that it's actually been misinterpreted if we take that to mean that Allah leads some people purposefully away and that actually it's not about THAT but about finding people to have gone astray.

Rawry's Ramblings.

So, it is 11:30... and I'm snowed under with work atm

Which is why i have a sudden urge to do something as totally useless as make a random blog on TheRevival about Nothing much in particular xD

First off, i would like to ask why people think Miley Cyrus can sing.
I mean call me uncultured or whatever, but it sounds like nasally tuneless warbling to me o.0
And yet, she's one of the richest people in the World at the moment :/

Honestly, if ever there was a need to sum up the state of humanity at the moment, just use Miley Cyrus's success.

It is now 11:41 and my mum just came in and said "Jeez, if you're gonna eat like a builder, at least chew with your mouth CLOSED" and i think THAT pretty much sums up OUR relationship.

Controversial. Let's all get angry ;]

< Wondering about all your opinions on abortion?

Tbh i kind of find it a bit odd, people saying "unborn children" and "it doesn't matter at what stage they are in the womb, they're still human"

They're not 'unborn children' or humans YET, they're foetuses

Islamically, are we supposed to consider them children? They have no organs or anything... what makes them human?

Hijab.

It's more than a piece of clothing, it's symbolic of faith.
It shows you're a Muslim and the risks you're willing to take
It shows you're not afraid to outwardly express your submission to Islam...
Some even claim it's integral to Ihsan.

It's clear that it's compulsory
and obligatory to all Muslim girls
and indeed thousands wear it.... all over the world.

But where does it say in the Qur'an...
that the Hijab makes you superior?
Or that you have the right to judge criticise and put down
all those you, for that reason, deem inferior?

In fact it's not ENOUGH to wear the Hijab...
you have to mean it too.
But who is anyone to judge?
Though it should be accepted, that that includes you too.

Whether she's bikini clad
or covered in a full body veil...
