Minimum alcohol price planned for England and Wales

The government is proposing a minimum price of 40p per unit of alcohol in England and Wales in an effort to "turn the tide" against binge drinking.

It believes this could transform the behaviour of those who cause the most problems for hospitals and police

The industry said a minimum price was misguided and would hit consumers hard

Under the minimum price proposal, such as at the suggested 40p level, it would act as a floor and retailers would not be allowed to offer alcohol cheaper than that.

Inequalities

I don't understand why some muslim men treat their women with little respect, when in the Quran it states that men and women should both be treated equally. In theory I think that the Muslim religion itself is good, but maybe the Muslim people are interpreting their own religion wrong?
This muslim man on tv said; 'Our men are like gold, if you drop gold in mud, you can easily clean it, our women on the otherhand are like silk, if you drop silk in mud then you can clean it but the stains will still show'.
- This doesnt sound like the men think of their women as equal people.

Doctors 'should have the right to KILL unwanted or disabled babies at birth

Doctors 'should have the right to KILL unwanted or disabled babies at birth as they are not a real person' claims former Oxford academic

Doctors should have the right to kill newborn babies because they are disabled, too expensive or simply unwanted by their mothers, an academic with links to Oxford University has claimed.

The piece argues that, though the child may be happy, it will not reach the potential of a normal child.

‘To bring up such children might be an unbearable burden on the family and on society as a whole’

MAKE BRADFORD BRITISH

Make Bradford British, Channel 4, preview
Channel 4's latest social experiment attempts to answer what it means to be British, says Andrew Marszal

‘When’s the last time you’ve come out in a miniskirt and a low-cut top?” asks a large, menacing man in a bomber jacket, sipping on his pint in a Bradford inner-city pub. It’s benefits day, and the Boy and Barrel is crowded with regulars. The girl he’s talking to says that she simply doesn’t want to. “That’s wrong that… Have you even tried a miniskirt?” Another patron chimes in: “I think you’d look bloody lovely in a miniskirt.” A woman at the bar says: “If you want to be here, dress like us.”

Abortion: Gender claims probed by Department of Health

The Department of Health has launched an inquiry into claims that doctors agreed to carry out abortions on the grounds of the sex of unborn babies.

The Daily Telegraph said it had secretly filmed doctors at a number of British abortion clinics.

The doctors are said to have agreed to terminate foetuses when women did not want their baby because of its gender.

Health Secretary Andrew Lansley said sex selection was "illegal and morally wrong" and he had ordered an inquiry
