alot of girls at jamia had the same problem and me too at times,

for us we just respected certain teachers alot that we feared we might say something wrong or sound stupid...

actually it can be VERY hard.

It IS very hard.

But it is something that needs to be overcome.

for some reason talking to certain teachers with class was more easy than going to see a teacher seperately...

i hesitate alot and my words dont tend to come out ....i get nervous easily with some teachers, so end up looking stupid,

however some girls are really free with the teachers, and they were told they had lack of respect.

You should ahve respect for the teachers, but at the same time be free enough to discuss anything that needs to be discussed.

I cannot see how a teacher would find an open two-way dialogue offensive, or disrespectful.

just in case any1 thinks that the Teachers in our madrassah rebuke students for asking questions or take it badly or say the student is being dsirespectful or bigheaded, alhamdulillah they dont.

I was just saying that out of respect and fear for my Ustadji I dont just ask random questions, nor do I speak much but rather listen attentively.

Naj, I know what you saying about some girls in jamia being free with teachers. We got some boys who are really free aswell, back chat and argue etc, I dont knw how they get the courage to do that.

Admin I agree that if a question needs to be asked then it should be done and there shouldnt be shyness. But if we were having a lesson on shi'tes then asking about this hadeeth or asking for further clarification/elucidation is correct and wouldnt be so hard, but just randomly - even at the end of a lesson - to ask Ustadji random question is hard on me.

lol yes

You would not believe how much work getting married can be!!!

I've somehow managed to get myself involved pretty deep in Church politics - and i'm not even a Catholic yet. I've got (now) five very angry stalkers I have to beat off with sticks. My mother is up to something... she had a weird response I don't trust, and (relating to the first) we can't pick even a tentative date, because we can't pick a church because depending on where we get married we will offend a Cardinal OR a Bishop - Cardinal is of higher rank but the Bishop is at home.

All of a sudden Vegas makes so much sense to me...

Well, I'll say good luck again.

You definitely need it.

And you can collect it yourselves if I ever get this church business worked out! I made the terrible mistake of saying "whatever you want baby" and now this wedding is gradually turning into a coronation.

How's life med?

maybe have an outdoor ceremony?

avoid the church altogether?

Dave a million congratulations!

And excuse me for being nosy but how did you set the scene?

lol in a word "unfairly"

I asked her in front of the giant Christmas tree in the Rockefeller Center.

The problem being that the NYC tradition is whenever somebody asks in front of the tree or in Times Square - everybody in the square has to clap.

So I had lots of peer pressure on her.

Which was mean... a might bit manipulative BUT SUCCESSFUL!

What I wasn't expecting was her to start crying - at first I thought "oh God what have I done" and then I realized it was the good crying - not the bad crying.

Had 2 fantastic lines though, a sailing analogy about stars and finding my way home, and another one about spending the rest of my life showing her how much I love her.

And of course we got three cheers and a round of applause from the 50-100 or so people in the square.

Couldn't have gone better.
