New report details 'McCarthy-like' police surveillance and discrimination against the Muslim community.

London, United Kingdom - Muhammad still does not know for sure why British counter-terrorism police came to the door of his east London home shortly before dawn one morning in March 2012.

It was 5:30am on the day of Muhammad and his wife's third wedding anniversary. The couple's two young children were sleeping in their cots, and his elderly parents were also visiting.

"My mum woke me up, saying: 'There are police at the door. Get up! Get up!' My wife grabbed her headscarf and we all went into the living room," Muhammad told Al Jazeera, requesting only his first name be used for legal reasons.

Urgent action needed.

If you look at the for Friday February 28 2014, the 2nd item is "Legislation
Face Coverings (Prohibition) Bill - Second reading - Mr Philip Hollobone"

This is not an official government motion and the chances are this legislation will not be successful.

However, we should not be complacent and we need to protest such attempts at abusing the civil liberties of Muslims.

Limiting Women's freedoms does not increase them.

Denmark bans halal and kosher slaughter as minister says ‘animal rights come before religion’

Denmark’s government has brought in a ban on the religious slaughter of animals for the production of halal and kosher meat, after years of campaigning from welfare activists.

The change to the law, announced last week and effective as of yesterday, has been called “anti-Semitism” by Jewish leaders and “a clear interference in religious freedom” by the non-profit group Danish Halal.

Interesting lectures by researchers on government and commercial spying/surveillance/hacking.

I think lecture 2 is more important than part 1 to watch... less technical, actually shows hardware etc in there and shows you how badly the internet and electronic communication is compromised.

The basic gist is one of total surveillance. They discuss specific products (I don't like Apple, so the apple bit is interesting)

(oh and btw, if you are reading this on a laptop with a camera, thats easy to hack. security conscious people should tape it over.)

A team of physicists has provided some of the clearest evidence yet that our Universe could be just one big projection.

In 1997, theoretical physicist Juan Maldacena proposed1 that an audacious model of the Universe in which gravity arises from infinitesimally thin, vibrating strings could be reinterpreted in terms of well-established physics. The mathematically intricate world of strings, which exist in nine dimensions of space plus one of time, would be merely a hologram: the real action would play out in a simpler, flatter cosmos where there is no gravity.
