A solution for the refugees?

Naguib Sawiris

An Egyptian Telecoms billionaire has proposed buying a Mediterranean island to shelter refugees fleeing from Syria and other countries.

Naguib Sawiris, who is believed to be worth $2.9billion, announced his idea on Twitter this week.

He tweeted: “Greece or Italy sell me an island, I’ll call its independence and host the migrants and provide jobs for them building their new country.”

He added: “Crazy idea… Maybe but at least temporary until they can return to their countries??!!”

Speaking to AFP later, he said: “Of course it’s feasible. You have dozens of islands which are deserted and could accommodate hundreds of thousands of refugees.”

Surprise Surprise, Hamas didn't kidnap & kill the 3 Israeli teens after all

When the bodies of three Israeli teenagers, kidnapped in the West Bank, were found late last month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not mince words. "Hamas is responsible, and Hamas will pay," he said, initiating a campaign that eventually escalated into the present conflict in the region.

But now, officials admit the kidnappings were not Hamas's handiwork after all.

Erdoğan lambasts Muslim world, UN over Gaza 'genocide'

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan lashed out at the United Nations and Muslim countries for not taking action to stop a deadly Israeli aerial campaign targeting Gaza, which he said has amounted to “systematic genocide.”

During a speech in front of Muslim scholars attending a meeting in İstanbul, the prime minister accused the UN of “serving a secret cause” and lambasted the Muslim world for not working to stop the killings in Gaza because what happens there has nothing to do with the Sunni-Shiite conflict.

Muslim Public School Holidays Will Be Observed In New York City

Muslim families in New York City have been requesting official recognition for Islamic holidays in public schools for years now, but they may finally see some changes under new Mayor Bill de Blasio.

On Monday he discussed the issue on the Brian Lehrer Show, declaring that he planned to move forward with closing schools for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, as well as for the Lunar New Year.

“It is complicated in terms of logistics and school calendar and budget. But it’s something I want to get done in a reasonable time frame,” he said, according to the New York Daily News.

Schoolboy, 13, rapes his eight-year-old sister after watching porn on the X-Box because he 'wanted to try it out'

Yes, this actually happened.

A 13-year-old schoolboy raped his eight-year-old sister after watching pornography on an X-Box computer console, a court has heard.

The teenager told police he used the games console to view explicit material before he 'decided to try it out'.

The boy said he targeted his younger sister because she was small and 'couldn't remember stuff'.

At Blackburn Magistrates Court yesterday the boy admitted rape, indecent assault and inciting his sister to perform a sexual act on him.

The youngster, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, has been bailed to live with relatives away from his sister while a pre-sentence report is being prepared.

Allah vs atheism: ‘Leaving Islam was the hardest thing I’ve done’

Amal Farah, a 32-year-old banking executive, is laughing about a contestant singing off-key in the last series of The X Factor. For a woman who was not allowed to listen to music when she was growing up, this is a delight. After years of turmoil, she is in control of her own life.

On the face of it, she is a product of modern Britain. Born in Somalia to Muslim parents, she grew up in Yemen and came to the UK in her late teens. After questioning her faith, she became an atheist and married a Jewish lawyer. But this has come at a cost. When she turned her back on her religion, she was disowned by her family and received death threats. She has not seen her mother or her siblings for eight years. None of them have met her husband or daughter.

UKIP councillor blames storms and floods on gay marriage

A UKIP councillor has blamed the recent storms and heavy floods across Britain on the Government's decision to legalise gay marriage.

David Silvester said the prime minister had acted "arrogantly against the Gospel".

In a letter to his local paper he said he had warned David Cameron the legislation would result in "disaster".

UKIP said Mr Silvester's views were "not the party's belief" but defended his right to state his opinions.
