At college/uni you get 50 times more freedom than school! That's why I was sooooo eager to get out.

Chin up, mate! Life's too short.

Alot of the Editorial board are either in higher education or have left already and work. Suffice to say there are still young peeps on there too who have college etc.

And life after education is no where near as easy as it first sounds TRUST ME. You'll find you will be faced with a whole different set of problems.

thanks for the encouragement...

Good to hear. Courage is spot on when he says you get more freedom in college however if your struggling/dislike homework now then you will be ok in college but uni its never ending.

7 years for a surgeon and 10 years for a GP me thinks. Good luck with that

are you kidding! isnt it a bit more serious if a surgeon mutilates a body than a GP diagnosing someone incorrectly?

Behold...Me!

soz, i meant a GP diagnosing someone incorrectly

well surgeons are specified to specific areas such as brain surgeons where as GP's have so many illnesses that they need to know so many cures etc.

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane, by those who couldn't hear the music...

scrap being a GP then

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's the other way around. Everyone does the basic training but you can choose to be a specialist if that's what you want.

And ironically, it was my AS Law textbook that I got that from!

it must be so difficult doing law, do you have to remember every single law as well as the dates, or do you have a certain topic ( you could be 'judge judy')

what time does everyone get up for school/college/uni/work?

Behold...Me!

Well, usually i get up @ 6:30/ 6:45 but coz it's Ramadhan (and i don't need to hav breakfast) i get up at 7:15.
But today i got up at 20 to 8, and i hav to leave the house at 8:00! Whoops!

@Sumaiya either way you have to do a medicine degree which is 5 years! Then apply for a position of a junior doctor and work your way up so buy the time you do become a doctor you might as well apply to be a GP. I think the pay for GPs is more then hospital doctors. Reason being GPs treat everything whereas hospital doctors just specialise in one thing.

Its tough getting onto the medicine course at uni. Not many unis do it and when you do your UCAS you can only apply to 4 (for other courses you can apply for 6) You have to attend an interview and in this day and age its not enought to have excellant acdemics you need relevant expereince. When you go college look for a job in the health sector. Even if its voluntary work it still looks good on your uni application form.

Hope the above doesnt put you off. Its hard work but it will all be worth it in the end when your rolling in it lol.

Don't wish away your school days, they really are the best of your life. If you're not having fun then you are doing something wrong.

Don't just do something! Stand there.

my whole class is doin something wrong too then.

Well it's not exactly easy, you don't have to memorise everything. You need to memorise case law and some sections but you don't memorise all the wording or anything like that. At uni you sometimes get open book exams.

really? under what topic?

It was comparing barristers and solicitors to consultants and GPs and saying that it's totally different.

to do law, do you have to be like really enthusiastic about it?
wot do you think about people who do it just for the money?

That helps you know, sadly there are people who just do it for the money and they do unethical things, most of the time they get caught and get struck off.
To me as a lawyer you're providing a service for someone, so why just care about the money?

i wanted to be a barrister at one time but i heard that it was haram because you could be supporting some who is guilty and helping them to get away with a crime.

Its a very snooty profession. You have to go to like 8 dinners a year and be one of them to fit in. Its too hard for a practicing Muslim to survive in that profession. Plus you have to sit around until you actually get some work. So what is one suppose to do in the meantime? One of my undergraduate lecturers was a Barrister but then went part time coz he wasnt getting much work.

I think in criminal cases if your representing the defendant and your client actually committed the crime but has only told you about it you can actually stop acting for that person but you cant tell the court the reason coz of client confidentiality.

Tru Tru,

In criminal cases you are under a duty not to mislead the courts. So if the client tells you he's guilty you need to advise him to make a guilty plea, otherwise you can choose to stop acting for him.

Barristers do tend to be a little snotty, they think of themselves as the elite (yeah rite... but who do they go for cases??? The SOLICITOR!!!). Anyho.
