I'm using the laptop in my lap fully aware that there is a very high possibility it might just explode and catch fire.
A while ago, I realised that when i plugged the laptop charger into my laptop it wouldn't charge and that I needed to position it perfectly for it to work.
There was also a time when I tried pulling the charger out and screamed OUCH because of how hot it had become. I had to use my sleeve to pull it out because I thought I would burn my fingers.
I've even had occassions when I pull out the plug from the extension lead and I can see some sparks, but I just pretend that I'm seeing things and continue with what i'm doing.
But.. during the course of the past few days, I noticed that the black wire had somewhat melted exposing some bronze-coloured wires.
NOW i should be concerned. I'm really worried that something will go terribly wrong. Thankfully, I ordered a new charger yesterday so it should be coming soon. Good investment.

I don't know. I've had it for two-three years *I think* but it's been in the house for longer than that.
theres ur problem ur prob using ancient tech thats heats up quicky. or the insides of the laptop is covered in dust causing it to heat up quickly.
Id recommend a gud clean.... if not buy a newer one.

My dad claims it's because the wire is bent when it's in my lap and doesn't stay flat lol. Or it could be what you've said. Who knows? I'll buy a new one if i feel the need and if the new charger doesn't solve any issues.
....or if it causes a fire lol

Update: I collected the charger from a neighbours house because the courier driver gave it to them whilst we weren't in. Today, i opened it up and plugged it in.
I feel a little on edge and it took me such a long time to plug it in. I was scared something will go horribly long and stood a fair few steps away with my arms stretched outward.
It seems fine to me. The battery block is smaller than my original one. Does this actually make a difference at all? I noticed some whirring sounds but they seem to have gone quieter.
check out not just the battery charger but also the battery. how fast does it deplete? or is it to the point where it needs to be constantly plugged in to stay switched on?
also, cleaning the insides does help. though ive never done it with a laptop before, it cant be too complecated, unscrewing, hoovering on low setting, rescrewing. not losing screws.
Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
No, apparently with laptops you're supposed to do the opposite of hoovering? (According to a friend of mine.. not sure how reliable this is).. She told me to blow and try to make sure the dust doesn't fly in my face. I tried blowing into the fan part on the side but nothing happened lol :/
We open up the PC's quite a bit actually and i'm suprised by the amount of dust it can collect. It's just covered in grey fluffy-ness. The next time we have a clean up i'll take a picture and if i remember, i'll post it here for you to see.
