I was just reading this article about teen suicides in India (well, Mumbai, where they are averaging one teen a day, or three people in total per day... with 100,000 people committing suicide in india per annum) and its quite... alarming? unnerving? high? surprising? take your pick.
Another quote from the article:
World Health Organisation Assistant Director-General Catherine Le Gals-Camus points out more people die from suicide around the world than from all homicides and wars combined.
The article also mentions for every successful attempt there are probably 13 failed attempts and that some extra light has been shone on the issue when this issue was highlighted in some Bollywood Movie where some student after getting mediocre grades committed suicide.
Im not surprised. Life is a bit of a let down.

I guess life can seem like a let down when you realise you're not going to become a great statesman or a wealthy CEO or an astronaut or a pop star. But then you can get over that froth and find something more substantial to light your inner fires.
Like being the best parent in the world, for instance.
That can be a lil difficult. Especially when tragedy strikes so close to you. You can become overwhelmed with grief that it becomes all you think abot.
And sooner or later you might consider a form of escapism, so that you'll be spared your pain.

Altho i think it a little strange for people to attempt suicide becoz of bad grades.
However, this is in a totally different part of the world. Its possible they were poor or something and put alot of time and money into their studies and nothing came of it.

I just read this, no its not as logn as it seems!
I know when we are faced with tragedies and pain we can't see or think of any possible benefits at all but I pray that everyone gets through their hardships and never even thinks about suicide. Everyknows thats not the answer.
remember - When your life is in darkness and Nothing seems right, just remember through the darkness Allah(swt) is the light!

In the past year i can name 4 people that have taken this step. Thinking of their separate situations it's to an extent understandable, but i'm sad that they never found their strength to struggle through from Allah(swt) and they didn't ask for guidance or help in their hardship. When somebody passes you pray that allah grants them jannah and forgives their sins ect, but when somebody commits suicide what do you do? when you know that commiting suicide is a straight to hell kind of action.
I can understand why all of them took the step that they did, but i don't think they were right in taking it.
I guess if you dont have something to look forward to, or something you're afraid of, like a greater deity, then suicide becomes an option.
I, from the beginning, knew that suicide was wrong, and doing something like this, so selfish, just to end something that isnt even THAT bad when you look at it compared to other situations, and then the punishment (if you believe in it) that would last FOREVER... =/, i chose the "i'll bear it with the help of God" option, and I definatly Thank God for that.
I'm so grateful i had faith, which included both the scary and the looking forward to something factor. and im so grateful i had ISLAM as my faith, it just is a great feeling when you dont have to go through someone/something else to get to God, or be in a certain place or position.
Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
