When you just don't wanna do something

ever had that moment, when you just don't wanna do something, something you've been told to do. and im not talking about revising or working or whatever. im talking about something specific. like hoovering the bathroom or baking a cake or something like that. or cleaning your room or go pick up your little sister or load the dishwasher or whatever. someone in authority over you ask you to do something and you just dont wanna FRIKKING DO IT!

and you know, deep down inside that you gotta do it. so then your mind proceeds to play gladiators, exhausting your emotional energy and whatever else and then when a FRIKKING PIN DROPS YOU FEEL LIKE KILLING SOMEBODY.

edit: let me expand on that. so basically your brain is like "i dont wanna do this" and another part of your brain says "but who else is going to do it? everyone else has got loads of work to do, you havent been doing much anyway, and you're not tired and you're just fine, just do it" and then "but i just dont frkking wanna do it" and then "but common, its not going to kill you, you'll be fine, plus your mum asked you, its good to listen to your mum" etc..etc... thats what i call playing gladiators. it sounds more like a debate, but at the end of it, you feel more like you've been fighting for your life...

and the pin drop thing, well you know, all this been going on in your head, so then you walk past a shelf full of paper and suddenly ALL THE PAPERS fall down coz you brush past them and you just think some horrible things and just wanna curl up and cry or punch something repeatedly or scream or something like that.

anyone ever feel that way?

i just googled "when you just don't want to do something". it's not quite what i'm looking for but i'll go through the results...

edit: might try googling "what do do when you dont wanna do something". that might be more interesting.

now when you're in that situation there's two outcome.

you dont do that thing. and when someone else does it you guiltrip to nowherland and back. and the only way to feel better is to sleep and replenish that emotional energy or whatever

you do that thing. its over and you didnt die and nothing happened and the world is still revolving and you're still breathing and you might even feel good about yourself coz you did it afterall, and causing happiness to others is also a feel good. so yeah, you feel good. << i think thats how you feel. i'll have to analyse myself the next time im in that situation.

this blog isnt about whether to do it or not, its about when you get the feeling "i dont wanna do it" and you feel like this is a big deal and you're getting worked up about it, HOW do you deal with THOSE feelings, how dyou get over it. what should you tell yourself so that you can just scale this down, stop being melodramatic and end up doing it without raging inside. that's what im wondering.

You sound SO distressed, are you okay? No, you don't sound okay. Why am i asking you such an obvious question? Calm down. Don't let it get to you too much.

This happens to me quite abit. I'm excused a lot of the times. Now, how would I deal with those feelings? I will share them with you and then if you think that they may work or help you in anyway, you may nick them.

1) Get it done as soon as you can, so it's out of the way. No-one can bug you and tell you, you haven't done it, because you have.

2) Tell whoever wants the task completed that you will do it at a specific time. For example at 4 o'clock. Then stick to your word and do it at that time.

3) Ask a sibling to do it on your behalf. Tell them that you'll do it on their behalf when it's their day to do something. This works especially with having to lay food and load the dishwasher.

4) Change your way of thinking. The person asking me to do something is only asking me because they know that i am the only one who is capable of doing this task in the way that the person asking, wants it to be done.

5) Tell yourself that you are getting rewarded for helping out whoever is asking of your assistance. A thank you from the person who wants the task done may be small and not worth much perhaps, but the pleasure of Allah is greater and he gives the best of rewards.

The way around mundane tasks is to not think about them.

Treat them like breathing.

You never consciounsly think "breathe in, now hold, now breathe out". Well unless you are trying to stop hyperventilating...

but the same principle applies.

Don't think about it, let your mind dream, forget about the task...

(and in my world, I then don't do it either... but the ideal is to do it without focussing on it...)

"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.

That's because it's a reflex action...
