Pakistan going to pot

May aswell have a new topic on this. it sort of continues from the discussion in the sri lankan cricketers attacked topic.

Watch the video on BBC News, and near the end, how can that ever be a respected form of protest?

Smashing up random buses vehicles is I would think not a good thing. and the owners there would not always be wealthy people who can repair them.

As for the people in the rest of the video, I doubt they were paid to be there. They are there of their own accord. rooting for a corrupt politician.

All travel plans to be tracked by Government

The travel plans and personal details of every holidaymaker, business traveller and day-tripper who leaves Britain are to be tracked by the Government, the Daily Telegraph can disclose.

Anyone departing the UK by land, sea or air will have their trip recorded and stored on a database for a decade.

Passengers leaving every international sea port, station or airport will have to supply detailed personal information as well as their travel plans. So-called "booze crusiers" who cross the Channel for a couple of hours to stock up on wine, beer and cigarettes will be subject to the rules.

In addition, weekend sailors and sea fishermen will be caught by the system if they plan to travel to another country - or face the possibility of criminal prosecution.

Israel row derails Obama nominee

The Obama administration's candidate for a top US intelligence post has withdrawn, after his past criticism of Israel came under heavy fire.

Charles Freeman had been named to head the National Intelligence Council, which produces security assessments.

But his comments about Israel, as well as links to China and Saudi Arabia, had enraged dozens of US lawmakers.

Mr Freeman said he did not think the council could work effectively "while its chair was under constant attack".

It is the latest embarrassment for President Barack Obama, who has seen a number of appointees withdraw or forced out...

Zoo chimp 'planned' stone attacks

A male chimpanzee in a Swedish zoo planned hundreds of stone-throwing attacks on zoo visitors, according to researchers.

Keepers at Furuvik Zoo found that the chimp collected and stored stones that he would later use as missiles.

Further, the chimp learned to recognise how and when parts of his concrete enclosure could be pulled apart to fashion further projectiles.

The findings are reported in the journal Current Biology.

There has been scant evidence in previous research that animals can plan for future events.

Crucial to the current study is the fact that Santino, a chimpanzee at the zoo in the city north of Stockholm, collected the stones in a calm state, prior to the zoo opening in the morning.

Obama hints at talks with Taleban

President Obama has suggested there could be talks with moderate elements of the Taleban in Afghanistan as part of a process of reconciliation.

Mr Obama told the New York Times that US forces in Iraq had persuaded some Islamic radicals alienated by the tactics of al-Qaeda to co-operate.

He said there might be similar opportunities in Afghanistan, although the situation there was more complex.

Asked if the US was winning in Afghanistan, Mr Obama replied: "No."

A month into his presidency, Mr Obama authorised the deployment of up to 17,000 extra US troops to Afghanistan...

Where are the Great British Muslim Personalities?

Ya'qub wrote in another topic:

I remember Suhaib Webb from California being one of them; he is really 'down with the kids' but not in a patronising way. Also some American shiekh who knew Malcolm X... TBH I think the American sheikhs are, on the whole, a whole level ahead/above their British counterparts in terms of showing how Islam is relevant to us on a day-to-day basis, and not being apologetic about what Islam teaches or the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) taught.

Discuss.

If we win the war in Afghanistan, we could lose a battle in Pakistan

The Taliban now have more support from their restless neighbours than ever before

If you think Afghanistan is a mess, just look across the border to Pakistan. It is a country teetering on the brink of total collapse. For much of the past eight years, since Central Asia became the epicentre of the global campaign against Islamist-inspired terrorism, the coalition's attention has focused on Afghanistan. Apart from being the launch-pad of the original al-Qaeda attacks, the chaotic security situation there and lack of effective government made it a fertile breeding ground for Islamist-minded malcontents.
