BBC Panorama to expose Failings of British Shariah Councils

Are Sharia councils failing vulnerable women?

BBC Panorama has uncovered fresh evidence of how some Sharia councils in Britain may be putting Muslim women "at risk" by pressuring them to stay in abusive marriages.

...

In Leeds I met Sonia, a woman who suffered extreme violence from her husband, who punched and kicked her and threw her down the stairs. He also hit their son. When Sonia got a civil divorce, the courts would allow him only indirect access to the children.

Sharia courts are not allowed to interfere in child access matters, but when Sonia went to Leyton Islamic Sharia Council for a Sharia divorce, they told her she would have to give the children up to her husband.

GM Crops found to be potentially dangerous

There was alwaysa scare about GM crops or frankencrops etc and how they could potentially be home to dangers we are unaware of.

Most pro GM crop people called the fears baseless.

Except now a hidden viral gene has been found insome GM crops and it may not be benign.

from the article:

his is because there are clear indications that this viral gene (called Gene VI) might not be safe for human consumption. It also may disturb the normal functioning of crops, including their natural pest resistance.

So not just fearmongering then.

Ummul Mu'mineen Hadhrat Aisha Siddeeqa and the Duha Prayer.

Let's get this topic started.

Volume 2, Book 21, Number 228:

Narrated 'Aisha:

Allah's Apostle used to give up a good deed, although he loved to do it, for fear that people might act on it and it might be made compulsory for them. The Prophet never prayed the Duha prayer, but I offer it.

Not the one I was looking for, but its a start.

@abualabbasassaffah - are you part of the Israeli Hasbarah?

Just a question.

Your posts are confusing and often taking opposing stands when discussing Islam.

However you are unwavering in your support of Israel.

Does not compute and I am aware that there are organised Jewish groups online who are out there to provide propaganda for Israel and try to deconstruct opposing viewpoints.

So that leave the question, are you part of the Israeli hasbarah?

Scientist: "Survival of the thickest" is making us stupid!

Well, this is an interesting one that goes against all the common theories. It is often suggested that people are getting smarter over time as they have to access more of their brain, in better ways due to education and all that.

Now a scientist comes across and suggests that we have been getting thicker for maybe longer than 2000 years!

Guardian article.

Actual papers: one and two.

However new tests of his clothing at the time have shown trace amounts of pollonium.

Now some people want to exhume his body in order to carry out further tests.

The murder of Shafilea Ahmed

(not using the other topic as the author is using it for political purposes)

I was just reading up on the latest updates on this murder trial where Shafilia Ahmed's parents are in the dock for murdering their daughter.

The star witness is another daughter who saw them kill her.

Truly shocking stuff.

She was only 17 when she was brutally murdered by her own parents.

Prosecutor Andrew Edis earlier told the court Ms Ahmed had seen her mother and father force a bag into Shafilea's mouth and suffocate her in September 2003.

Ms Ahmed then saw her parents in the kitchen of their home in Liverpool Road with bin bags and tape, wrapping the body up, the jury heard.
