Memorial for 'selfless' postman

Tributes have been paid to a postman who died in a blizzard while delivering mail 100 years ago.

Robert Cunningham died at the age of 27 after being forced to take a detour across moors near the Ayrshire village of Ballantrae.

He froze to death alone just a short distance from his home...

1. Does it have to be about something specific or can it be general?
2. Do you have to go to sleep immediately afterwards?
3. Apart from reward, does it serve any purpose if you do not sleep that night?

Taleban 'will kill school girls'

Taleban militants in the Swat valley in north-west Pakistan have threatened to kill girls who attend school.

A local Taleban commander ordered parents to stop sending their daughters to school by 15 January.

In comments broadcast on an illegal radio station, he threatened to blow up schools which enrolled female students.

This year alone, Taleban militants have destroyed more than 130 schools in the Swat valley. They want to bring in Islamic sharia law in the region.

Militant attacks on schools in the region have deprived more than 17,000 students of education.

I am a little early with this topic, but probably not as early as you all (may) think.

The Islamic new year is starting on Monday I think. (Or Sunday, but that is unlikely and I am not one to always check things out too thoroughly....)

Gazan "invents cooking" gas alternative

Gaza – Ma'an – Gazan resident Abd Ar-Rahman Farajallah revealed an alternative to cooking gas that he developed at a press conference on Thursday.

Cooking gas is in extremely short supply in the Gaza Strip due to the continued border closures imposed by Israel.

Farajallah explained that he invented a device using chemical substances available in Gaza, which burn when mixed and brought into contact with oxygen. He added that his concoction can be stored in medium-sized metal containers and used in homes, restaurants and bakeries as an alternative to cooking gas, since Israel has prevented deliveries of cooking gas to Gaza.

Tomorrow is Boxing day 2008.

Anyone planning to go and try to nab some bargains? Do you enjoy the shopping?

I think I need to...

In my winter clothing collection I am down to two pairs (there might be a third lurking somewhere...) of jeans jeans and 1.5 tops. (the 0.5 is because it is worn and holey... and like three/four years old).

Been looking recently for new cloths, but I never seem to find anything I like. and the materials are synthetic and not-nice too often IMO.

If you were in the room with your eyes closed, you might find it difficult to tell the difference between a parrot’s "hello" and the "hello" of a human. Unlike humans, parrots do not have vocal cords. Instead, they learn to control the movement of the muscles in the throat to direct the airflow in such a way as to reproduce certain tones and sounds—sometimes even human sounds.
