I was reading surah Kahf last night....but i don't read it often, usually listen to it or read translation. Yeah i found it really hard to recite surah kahf, felt dyslexic almost, almost gave up tryna read it. Don't know why i found it so hard to read....maybe because i barely recognised any of the words.
Need to read it more often me thinks

i was the same at the beginning (when i decided i'd read it everyfrida) i remember coming bck from school and sitting on top of bunk bed and reading. but alhamdoulillah and may Allah grant my parents Jannatul Firdaws, when it come to learning arabic i've been to a really good madrassah. so it's never been hard hard hard (oh there was plenty of grammar to compensate for the reading ease; i remember tearful evenings-before-madrassah..)
back to topic. I'd advice everyone to just keep at it, reading it everyweek will DEFO help and soon enough you'll be fluent as..euh...water! (its late...)
and if you need more motivation, then remember that surah Kahf is a light between the two fridays and that you get two reward when you struggle with the Quran and that every letter you read = 10 good deeds. (i'll inshaaAllh get all the ahadith for this)
buuut if its still hard; i'd advice reading an ayah, reading the translation, reading an ayah, reading the translation etc...
'al maalu wa banoona zinatu fil hayatid dunya' when i read this, i know im halfway.
Surah kahf is worth it. i love it how i just have to take my quran and open it right in the middle and i'd fall on it. i also love how it has exactly 110 ayahs. just awesome.
anyway...........;;

Yup just gonna stick at it insha Allah. I know shaytan was whispering in my ear last night, i just reminded myself of what you mentioned above about getting double reward for struggling and the rewards of reciting surah kahf and alhamdulillah i got through it. Felt great afterwards though i must say, felt like quickly turning to surah Ya'sin though just to read something fluently. I remember when i was struggling to read that even at one point but yup just gotta stick to it.
Love the meaning of the surah too every time i recognised a word i tried to figure out the meaning

yup key is repetition. I managed to learn surah Naba almost by heart by hearing my teacher read it to one of the neighbour kids when we used to have lessons together without having read it so imagine what u can do when u do! Have u tried repeating after a reciter? line by line? its longer that way, but that way youll be able to read it a lot more fluently next time as compared to just reading it yourself without listening to the reciter first.
and since ull be reading it every friday inshaaAllah, u might find urself beginning to memorise after a few weeks inshaaAllah.

Don't know if this is connected or not but last week i never made time to read surah Kahf and this whole week since friday night just fekt completly different to the last week where i didnread surah Kahf.
I felt like this whole week my imaan wasn't as strong and that my desires were being tested more. This whole week i've just felt kinda low as opposed to last week and for some reason i feel as it's connected to me not reading surah Kahf.
Insha Allah i'll be reading surah Kahf tonight and insha Allah, Allah will strengthen my imaan.
Jummah Mubarak

One could argue you're finding significance in coincidence
Would not carrying out a sunnah lead to something negative? A punishment? I mean you're not doing it anything wrong, you're just not doing anything extra that is right...?

I knew it wasnt just me! dude u been slacking! Was nice to see it on forums again though.
I think there are some sunnahs if u dnt do them for a very long time u can get sins for them though i cant remember specifically which ones. (sunnah prayer before fajr perhaps?)

AFAIK it's all Sunnah Muakkadah (regular, emphasised practice of the Prophet (saw))
but I'm talking about just the other extras. I don't think reading surah Kahf falls into the same category as not reading those sunnahs...?

perhaps not surah Kahf, but i suppose if u get into the habit then not doing it could make u feel out of synch.
AFAIK in regards to sunnah mukhkadah such as the sunnah prayer before fajr if u leave it long enough it can get sinful. Like if something is makrukh and u do it long enough it becomes haraam AFAIK. One thing someone at the masjid said about that was "if something IS makrukh why would u want to continue it if the purpose of our lives is to please Allah(swt)? Nicely said I personally thought.Ive been attending my local masjid for a while now (sorry for the change of topic Jim Bob. I blame feefs as usual)

lol why are you repeating what's already been said?
Anyway that was a pointless post for me. OBVIOUSLY the more sunnah you partake in, the more your iman grows, the better everything is. Like DUH

Foysol's quoted them already but I find the last verses of the surah the most powerful
[qs:18:103-110]
Also I've had this verse playing in my head since I read it this morning:
[qs:18:3]
"How many people find fault in what they're reading and the fault is in their own understanding" Al Mutanabbi
meant [qs:18:2] !
"How many people find fault in what they're reading and the fault is in their own understanding" Al Mutanabbi
Jazakallah khair for the reminder
Lets reunite the ummah under one flag LA ILAHA IL ALLAH MUHAMMADUR RASULULLAH
Wa iyyak
...it was a late reminder though, Jumuah had finished
"How many people find fault in what they're reading and the fault is in their own understanding" Al Mutanabbi
That translation uses an odd word for hell - gehenna - I should've got the meaning but googled it - "(in Judaism and the New Testament) Hell"
"How many people find fault in what they're reading and the fault is in their own understanding" Al Mutanabbi
Enjoy and read Surah Kahf yourself today (jumuah) inshaAllah
