seraph, ofcourse u shouldnt go!!!

remember the hadith about the perfume shop and the blacksmiths... u shouldnt willingly put urself in a place where haraam activities are going on.

I'd agree with Omrow if you can find a mate to go with, unless you have proper mates who'll be there anyway.

how can u encourage garfield to go to a party where there'll be mistletoes and alcohol

Seraph. Don't listen to Aseya. She is not invited.

She is trying to seprate you from your friends.

Giving your colleagues some nice company which they seek from you is one of the good manners taught by Prophet.

As long you don't engage in sinful hot activity, which somehow I know you won't, then there is no problem in being there with them.

And if you feel really claustrophobic, you can always excuse yourself and go home early.

lol, a T-Shirt... i dont think i hav the time to buy one and customise it aswell.
If i did get one it would prob say:

"We have one life; it soon will be past; what we do for God is all that will last. "

Problem is not many practicing muslims work there... except this one other guy whose kinda cool... i might be able to go with him.

Aasiyah... ive never come across that hadith... altho im tempted to say you've invented it out of thin air ... im prepared to giv u the benefit of the doubt. seraph, that wasnt nice of u at all. so just bcoz u havent come acros the hadith, i invented it? its common, which is y i didnt quote it straightaway. forgive me for breathing.

Verily, the example of a good companion and a bad one is like that of a perfume merchant and a blacksmith: As for the perfume merchant, he would either grant you (some perfume), or you would buy (some perfume) from him, or (in the least) you would get a good smell from him. And as for the blower of the bellows (ironsmith), you would either get a foul odour from him, or he would burn your clothes.

Such vanity from a woman. Useless research.

Ignore them Aasiya

its obvious they're chatting outta their backside

so how about me and u linking up and going clubbing tonight?

I'm sure it'll be OK as long as we have our hijaabs on, don't drink, dance or allow guys to chat us up

and after that we'll get a drink in the local pub-thats also OK as long as we just order an orange juice

lol, no you idiot you're supposed to give a gift you recieved from someone else but saved for a purpose such as this. Bonus popints for giving a person the same gift they they gave you earlier e.g. B'day, Bonus points further if its still in their wrapping paper.

Oh dear...

Also LilSis The plural of 'mistletoe' is 'mistletoe' (i think)

If you have not heard a hadith, it does not make it wrong.

Its not a benefit of the doubt matter... It is about trusting others.

If you had doubts, you should have asked where it was from.

I have eard it before.

It may even be in the 40 Hadith compiled by Imam Nawawi.

"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.

Do you have to attend this xmas party?

I have been invited but i dont wana go as there will be alcohol and i aint gona go (personally cuz there is alochol and the environment but i aint a very sociable person) . My sis might be goin to hers cuz they are goin to some pakistani restaurant.

Judging from a few people in that work place you dont wana be near them when they are sober let alone drunk!

I dont think you should go regardless of you being able to control yourself against drunk women or not given in to temptation to drink.

I think this kinda works like male and female being alone together, you may not want to drink but saytan will tempt you into it. why put yourself in such a situation which you dont have to?

thanx for the clarification, and i wasnt being melodramatic!

look, y wud i tel u not to got out for some 'potential' fun if i didnt genuinely think it was wrong?

FACT: unnecessary intermingling of the sexes is haraam.

wen ur at work, it is necessary, so as long as ur business-like, ur not sinning inshaAllah.

but once uv stepped outta work, and ur in a social atmosphere with non-mahrems, u have already put urself in a position of 'potential sin'.

QUESTION: y take the risk?

isnt this the same reasoning behind which most of us didnt go to our high-school proms / sixth form balls?

omrow, ur argument is flawed. firstly, wot 'friends'? r u trying to say that seraph's colleagues are his 'friends'? a friend is one u can depend on, someone u can confide in, etc. colleagues rarely become one's 'friends'.

don't twist the Prophet's lifestyle to ur own advantage mate. the Prophet (s.a.w) would avoid places where haraam activities were taking place. does the "Cave of Hira" ring a bell?
if he (s.a.w) wanted, he could've spent more time partying with his tribesmen in the hope that some of his good manners and virtue would rub off on them. but instead he avoided them, knowing (that too, before his Prophethood!) that they were engaged in acts which would displease Allah.

seraph has enough time to do da'wah through 'good manners' whilst he's at work, when his colleagues are sober enough to notice.

When a muslim is invited by a non muslim, he should accept the invitation.

The only invitation that you ought to turn down is when you are asked to do something that is prohibited in Islam, such as come and watch a lap dancer, take part in gambling, cheer Gary Glitter etc.

Seraph has been invited to a Christmas party. Not an orgy. He has not been asked to commit a sinful act.

Yeah i was watching Jin story and I swear I thought I saw Hurley on the TV. Not sure to be honest. Yeah everything is building up nicely, i seriously can not see where the storyline is heading. The little black kid and the unborn baby will have a big role to play in the show IMO.

If he getting you a copy, tell him to get me one as well. I probably will still buy the whole show when it finishes, but don't see the point of buying a series at a time.
