US 'aiming at Syria regime change'

Israel predicted yesterday that America would impose fresh sanctions on Syria in an attempt to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad.

Shaul Mofaz, the defence minister, said he believed sanctions would follow publication of a United Nations report expected to implicate senior Syrian officials in the murder of Rafik al-Hariri, the former Lebanese prime minister.

Being A Religious Rebel

Salaam

I’ve been talking to my friends recently a lot about this topic…surprisingly its very common.

You may know/heard of girls who used to walk out the house wearing loose/decent clothes and used to change in school and/or at the top of the road…..or them teenagers who used to tell their parents that they’re going to the library or school and would end up somewhere that their parents would never approve off.

Similarly, these days some youth are becoming “religious rebels” instead of being “wild-teenage rebels”.

Kashmir

I thought i wud do a thread on this since it is overtaking the Alif-Aleph thread.

what viable solution is there to kashmir?

No viable solution save one, and peole are too chicken including myself to take it.

I hope that don't mean what i think it means med
ive heard some and you can even think of some yourself, but i wouldnt know right now. admittedly, i dont take much interest in the Kashmir situation.

Being A Muslim

Salaam

For the first few years of our life, most of us obediently and blindly followed our Muslim parents, we had very little choice in this matter…this may have been due to lack of freedom AND knowledge.

However, as we grew older and were exposed to other ideas around us, we no longer blindly followed everything we saw/heard from our family…. We had to go back to Islam in order understand WHY we’re practicing it….

Having this understanding of WHY we're practicing something makes us do it all the more better…

So why are YOU a Muslim? I mean, what’s so great about Islam?

Caste and Trade

What do you think about the caste system? Are you totally against it or do you think it has some benefits. Where do you draw the line in its importance or lack thereof?

I am Qurayshi by clan and tailors by trade. I think the caste system is good for identification but I dont agree that one caste is superiour to another except the Sayyid, Siddiqi, Farooqi, Usmani/Ghani, Alawi, Abbasi castes.

I dont think Raja, Chaudhry, Jatt etc are better than us Qurayshis, nor do I think that us Qurayshis are better than Musallies and Naaies. We all equal but different.

The thirty days of Ramadan

Salaam

Ramadan is approaching.

just a couple or three days to go.

I was thinking that we all practice something new (and simple) every day of the month, that willmake us better people.

I'd say day 1: just make sure you read your prayers, and that you fast.
Day two: wake up earlier for sehri
day three: read some quran before going back to sleep.
day four: read fajr in Jamaah at your local mosque.

and yada yada.

So think of this as a community exercise.

who knows if it is good, and I can be bothered, I may add it to the site, updated every day!

Muslim glossy goes mainstream to break down cultural borders
By Will Pavia

IT IS shiny, there is a moody looking musician on the cover, and it rests beneath a rank of fashion magazines, but inside is something slightly different — this is Britain’s first glossy Muslim lifestyle monthly.

The magazine emel — the name references the initials ML, for Muslim Life, and an Arabic word meaning aspiration — has been running as a quarterly for two years.

Yesterday, in Borders bookstore on the Charing Cross Road, it officially went mainstream.
