A happy new year too.

As an aside, this was also the date on which Hadhrat Umar (ra) was martyred.
Yes indeed, it was..
These next 10 days were marked in Islamic History as many of the Prophets companions and his family was martyrd.

Yes, there is and I think we covered it - September-ish. Thank you though, I should be honoured also to have a Happy Muslim Year as well as a Happy Secular Year and the Happy Jewish Year I am already enjoying.

🙂

Came from Birmingham, was really quiet there. As soon as I entered London, the roads started getting busier and there loads of people out and about. Many people were wearing skimpy clothes in such cold weather... and this is @ 2am.

You — Thu, 1 Jan 2009 - 03:43

I hear that alcohol can "warm the blood" ot atleast take the edge off the cold... I guess miniskirts in -4 degrees is their form of jihad...

Friday could be -6... I wonder if they will see some sense and stay in?

curious

hmmm curious.

Perhaps if you can tell us why you gave him a present? Was it his b'day, for xmas?
Then perhaps we can give an answer. But as far as im aware there is no such restriction (although i could be wrong).

It could just be that he is trying to keep you a secret from his family?

Or he may be marking respect during these ten days. fwiw, I had not heard about not celebrating/not receiving during this month til this year - but I di think things have been twisted to make it seem as such.

but..uhm...in what consist this celebration?

You — Thu, 1 Jan 2009 - 15:16

It's something you would need to talk to him about. like clearly. With proper questions ans answers.

Personally, I have managed to avoid such a scenario and inshallah will avoid it in the future.

yes, i try but he said "i'll understand"...
But like this you follow only your mind...don't u want to follow your heart?
i think he's following his mind like us..and he tries to not tie with me because he knows is wrong with me..(in your religion's(?) opinion)

maybe i'm only a dreamer believing in love....:?

Inshallah they will both lead to the same place.

as I said, we do not know him. and the Islamic position was mentioned when you first signed up.

We do not know his intentions or what he will do. If he is a Shia Muslim, then there may very well be a desire to not participate in life activities whioch he considers not Islamic in nature for the next few days.

Well, it actually depends which sect he comes from - because incase you didnt know, the Shi'ah sect mourn this whole month.. and even beat themselves.
In terms of accepting presents - i dont think there are any restrictions, but people say its better not to listen to music or harm anyone in this month, because the prophets grandson and his family were martyrd and killed in this month...

Salaamz!
i don't see, why people celebrate a new year!it's 1 year closer to Judgement day;plus it's a year closer to your death!duh?

This man went to The prophet Muhammad (PBABUH), AND SAID :"when is the world going to end?"
The Prophet (PBABUH) replied "14"

what islamic era/century are we in, now?
please comment!

Reference to the above pls.

As far as i was aware, the prophet (pbuh) refused to be as specific as that.

I would like to know the reference for the above as well. :?: In the famous hadith where Jibrail appears and sits with his knees against the prophet ﷺ knees, asking about Islam, Iman and Ihsan (you know which one!), goes on to ask about the hour (ie Judgement day). To which, our prophet ﷺ says 'The one questioned about it knows no better than the questioner'. :|

I daresay anyone here is celebrating Islamic New Year in the literal sense. 😉 No-one around here is hosting a party (at least ive not been invited if there IS one! 😉 Its a time to engage in muhassabah: self-criticism and self-analysis. I'd like to think that everyone is being more reflective and evaluative over the year that just passed, and looking forward to bettering themselves with the new year. We've already had a thread about new years resolutions remember 😉 and 1st Muhurrum seems to fit a time to be more reflective and positive and look to the year ahead.

There is a lot to come yet before judgement day arrives, personally I think it is very far away yet. However this shouldnt matter as my Shaykh Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said when one dies their judgement day has began as your punishment/reward begins there on.....I think that is spot on.

We should worry about how well we have prepared ourselves for our hereafter.
