The hosting providers sent me an email letting me know they plan on upgrading their software... there is a potential that the site may not be available for a few hours between now and a couple of days.

A snail could move faster!
A few days ago, I was gonna start a topic called "I HATE THIS SITE", but then thought people may take that for negativity.
Now, that's the spirit.
On a a more positive note, I have real goodies planned for the *near* future.
How near? Well for the last 6 or so weeks I have thought "Today is the day". Just a lack of inspiration for the final touches has made me fail miserably. And it become "Today is the day they nearly saw ..."
(To get the right feel for that, think think Pirates of the Caribbean and "Today is the day you almost caught Captain jack Sparrow"/"Today is the day Captain Jack Sparrow almost got away".)

Unfortunately the bulk of the initial work is a one man show. Once that is done, others can chip in.

It looks good but could you add a 'private messages' tab on the left with the other tabs? One of the things I like about this site is that your inbox is easily accessible; some sites you have to look hard to find it.

thanks for the positive feedback.
@ Dawud - that is simple to do - I want the heavy lifitng to be out of the way first. I may even put it in the primary links just under the logo.. depends on how many there are and whether it is crowding things out or not.
It's not online yet... I have set up a webserver on my PC - which is only active when I am using it.
If everything goes ok, inshallah, things will be going forward today. But who am I kidding? I have been telling myself that for weeks now. (kept it on the quiet as I wanted it to be a shock - wake up one morning and everything is different. Unfortunately I let myself down yesterday by giving the game away. Then thought "the hell with it" and posted screenshots.)

What does the 'Administer' button do? Its on the screenshot on the left. And what does 'Creat content' mean? Maybe they should be renamed.
Even if you put it through today at midnight i'll still be surprised tomorrow. Dramatic changes are always surprising... even if we're expecting them.

Administer will only ever be seen by me. It lets me erm... administer things.
Create content takes you to an options page with options such as "Create forum topic, create poll" etc etc. Not decided what i will do with this yet. Most people will probably not see it.
And now the bad news. I have managed to add a small margin/padding/border/something somewhere in the css since yesterday which breaks a lot of things. Spent the last couple of hours tracking it down, but well, I am stumped.

Seriously, it looks good.
I think the orange looks ok.
But I don't particularly like the black strip under it. It looks a bit too erm striking and bold, very border-ish. What about a red instead, it might look better with the orange?
The blue of the comment boxes looks alright... don't know what other colour might look good, what about a grey colour? Along with that beige colour at the side in the 2nd pic. Will all the comment boxes be the same colour/shade? I think they need to be separated in some way.

currently all the comment boxes are blue (they were grey, but I had a little too much of that). It can be looked into, as can the colour of that bar (the black does draw attention though...).
EDIT - just had a check - red is way-too-bright as in eyes-train-bright.

I've been told the current style is too drab/boring, so I aimed for the opposite, but still keep ti stylish. The top is bright, stand-outy, the rest is more subdued.
Ofcourse the new style will be able to be refined when in use...
