Chelsea hit by new signings ban

Chelsea have been banned from signing any new players until January 2011 by football's governing body Fifa.

The Premier League club was found guilty of inducing French winger Gael Kakuta, 18, to breach his contract with Lens when he joined in 2007.

"Chelsea is banned from registering any new players for the two next registration periods," a statement on Fifa's website read.

Chelsea can appeal against the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Fifa's dispute resolution chamber (DRC) ruled Kakuta must pay compensation of 780,000 euros (£682,000), for which Chelsea are "jointly and severally liable".

A spokesman for the London club told BBC Sport they were looking into the matter and hoped to issue a statement shortly.

This is exactly what they deserve for suing Adrian Mutu - their former player who was sacked for cocaine use - for £14 million (the money they 'would' have been able to sell him for if they hadn't sacked him, but helped him recover for his addiction so he could start playing again).

If he'd broken off the contract then started playing in the Italian league by himself then I would think they have a case, but it was the fact that they abandoned him, fining and breaking his contract themselves, which has left me shocked.

He has managed to turn his life around by attending sport addiction clinics etc and has got back to his best, scoring LOADS of goals in Italy. He could've been scoring all those goals for Chelsea, had they not kicked him out. Now he will have to keep playing for years, possibly til his 40s, to pay Chelsea back. Their owner is a multi billionaire for God's sake! And they can waste £30 million on Shevchenko (there's no question that they would be able to fine him for being absolutely bobbins whenever he's played for Chelsea)!

Unrelated to the ban they've now got, but it's all part of their shoddy dealings and undercover shenanigans.

Don't just do something! Stand there.

Big busines can be disgusting - well, not "can be" but almost always is. It's shocking what they get away with - even look at the healthcare reform debates the US in undergoing right now.
