GRAMMAR

kids arent actually TAUGHT grammar in schools-they learn grammar by being corrected on their mistakes

(i learnt that thru studying PGCE textbooks-i read anything 8))

some kids have atrocious grammar

e.g "i onned the light", "I rided the bike", "i ated crisps"

word pronounciation is terrible too

e.g "fillum for film" or "crips for crisps"

add ur own

The one I used to struggle with was 'be's'.

'When something be's like that'

It's common up north I think.

The correct word to use is 'is'.

'When something is like that'

I still disagree with the rules here. I try not to use be's, but I find it totally logical and thus acceptable. Only thing being I point it out to others. Just to annoy.

One other thing I have noticed is I have started writing and speaking in half sentences. just a few words. No sense. used to do this alot in speech as I would assume people understand. til it was pointed out. Main issue is the lack of person. as 'i' or 'you' or 'them'. Just seem to miss that out alot.

"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.

slang also affects grammar

e.g people dont say "men" instead they say "mans"

I sometimes do say "she goes" instead of "she said" but it's not a problem since i knw what tense etc is to be used where, as for the younger lot, argh!

"i sawed it" which is meant to be "i saw it"

"it weren't me" meant to be "it wasnt me" this really peeves me

"it's mineS" meant to be "it's mine"

"i aksed her" meant to be "i asked her"

"repetion/repeption" when its meant to be "reception"

O you who believe, If you help (in the cause of) Allah, He will help you, and make your foothold firm {Surah Muhammad7}

"I'm gone" which should be "I am going"

"you's two" which should be "you two"

"I saw a mice"

My sisters always say 'worser'.

There is no such thing - it is 'worse'.

A question in my English exam was "Explain why you do not say "more better" in standard English"

I couldnt answer the question....

"i caughted it"

"you stoler"

All this shows that standards are declining and girls are getting fatter.

Small, smaller, smallest

Placing past, present and future tenses to Urdu words Biggrin

e.g "bhag-ing" (running), "row-ing" (crying), has-ing (laughing) etc

"war-er" = water

I always thought that was due to the English accent, here we pronounce water with the "r" at the end. You guys tend to "eat" a lot of the letters for example we say purple with the "r" whereas you would say purpa

Hhmmm......that is quite hard!

Something about "better" meaning more good, therefore "more better" is like saying more more better...?

I'm often guilty of saying "you best not", instead of "you better not".

i say that too :?

"you best not, go there/do that" etc

"have a munch" is also bad grammar

i always say "give it me" or "gimme it" instead of saying "give it to me"

Some examples I can think of are:

Kids not using apostrophes in their contractions
Kids mispelling and mispronouncing "pronunciation"
Kids not capitalizing "i"
Text Message Type like "thru" or "omg"
