Islamic new year has begun.

I have a question, are sunnis meant to in any way be sad during this 10 days?

No.

But we are supposed to remember our history and commemorate the crimes that occurred on the 10th and often people will feel guilty about having celebrations that occurred on or around that date - though historically it was a day of celebration.
