Due to unforseen circumstances a week ago the forums went down as the hosts managed to corrupt the whole server the database was running on.
I had not expected such a thing, and had no back up. Over the past week I have been trying to get a backup of the database from the hosts. Unfortunately they do not have any backups?!? so we have lost all the posts.
All members will have to recreate their accounts.
Inshallah these forums will be back to themselves very soon, with less login problems etc.
Currently Only the original unmodified forums are on here, but I have a copy of all change I had made, and will slowly bring my changes back.
(To be on the safe side I will do regular backups inshallah, and soon move hosts to more reliable ones; don't worry we will not lose any posts as I will have backups of the database).
Oh for you lot who are angry (and lost), just admit it; you were forced to enjoy the best week weatherwise we have had all year!

We had to go for a entire week without this forum... damn it i was going thru with-draweral-symptoms... i was shaking and everything!!!
On the bright side i got to work on my game quite a bit,

Anyway, aside from being 'forced' to enjoy the weather I looked around at other forums and made a guest appearence on the MPAC one. Man, they are all so hostile towards one another.

We were in a position to relaunch the forums on tuesday. However Ed said its better to wait a few more days until we got a reply from the hosting company wether they had an uncorrupted backup database, as the over 5000 (i think) posts would have made up for the delay.
Today they said they had no such backup.
But come on, its been beautiful weather (except sunday...). But too hot for me.

Do we need a sisters only forum? Thats a question for the sisters as I never went in there and have no idea wether it was useful.

what were u playin at, it didnt bother me that we didnt have revival for a whole week cuz i was mostly busy but what is annoyin is we lost ALL the posts just when the forum was live and kickin!! b4 you start cryin am only jokin but its annoyin we have to get the forum back to its normal stage!!
As for the sister forum, i know its my idea but really no one hardly uses it so maybe your rite no point havin it but thats only my opinion, i duno what the rest of the girls think? i think we are used to havin mixed debates so only some girly issues are raised amognst us girls alone but like i sed thats just my opinion!

Currently we are using between 3 and 5 gigs of bandwidth a month.
even if there are not many images, it the ammounts of pages sent. (and there is also main site).

from ur hits counter i didnt think ud need so much..
unfortunatly, i cant support dat as, other accounts may get affected.
i dunno where da bulk of ur badwidth is being taken, as uve just updated ur site, it cud be the ftp uploads..
there are a number of good practices to save bandwidth.. with ur ftp uploads, u can upload zipped up files and then decompress on ur server using the unzip command. Save's loads of bandwidth dat way.
Also, Wysywig editors such as front page and dreamweaver, add a lot of stuff to pages that take up a bit.
You're using CSS so that aint an issue.
images u already know about.
One other important one is caching, forums can't be cached, but ur static articles can have cache timeouts for a longer period of time.

Nah that hits counter is useless. It only measures the one page. I thought I had removed it!
(In may we got over quarter of a million hits).
Since the forums went down, the hits have gone down alot though.
One other question; have you ever used awstats? thats what I use, but it only measures the hits for that day, up til the time I click the update button, so my recprds are a bit off as on some days I forget to press update, on others, I do it during the day time, on others evening etc.
I use netmechanic.com to optimise the pictures (it shows you the pic at diff qualities (you can also change formats!). Pick the pic where the quality and the size tradeoff is ok.)
