Assalámu'alaikum wa Rahmatulláhi wa Barakátuhu.

These include lectures, regular circles, classes and sports activities, as well as one-off seminars, conferences and exhibitions. We also put up notices for accomodation, jobs, items for sale, Islamic projects, schools, counselling services, etc. Many of you will already be familiar with the noticeboard, having received weekly e-mails over the last year. BUILDING SOCIAL INSTITUTIONS OF OUR COMMUNITY

with Shaykh Abdullah Hakim Quick, Br Shabir Ally & Imam Siraj Wahhaj

Date: Wednesday 10th August 2005
Time: 5.30 pm - 9.00 pm
Venue: Froud Centre, 1 Toronto Avenue, Manor Park, London, E12 5JF

With up to 1 million Muslims in the Greater London area from every
corner of the world, and with up to 60% of them being below the age
of 40, London, and the UK in general, has enormous potential to
serve as a beacon for constructive Islamic development and progress
on a variety of levels over the next 10-15 years. However, in spite
of such factors to London’s advantage, the Muslim community has been
unable to deal with many of the social ills that have crept into our
society and have largely neglected the root causes of these problems
in favour of somewhat academic lecture based discussions.

This event with world-renown scholars will highlight the importance
of supporting social institutions on a grassroots level by raising
awareness of our responsibility towards such issues and inspiring
people to use their skills, time and experience constructively for
the service of the community. A number of organisations that have
been addressing these vital issues but have not had the platform
to highlight the tangible benefits of their work will be introduced
and there will be an opportunity for volunteers to sign up for
different projects. A special fundraising session organisations
will conclude the evening.

Islamic Relief will give an update on the famine crisis in Niger.
This is an excellent opportunity for people of all backgrounds to
get involved in community development work in a practical way.

**************************NEW GENERAL NOTICES**************************

NIGER NUTRITION CRISIS - VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED

Many of you will already be aware of the nutrition crisis in Niger.
However, what is not so apparent is that there are other nutrition
emergencies developing across West Africa as well. The international
community has neglected this region. Some 150,000 children could die
soon without help, out of a population of 2.5 million who need food,
according to UN sources.

Doctors World Wide are hoping to send 3-5 volunteers for a 7-10 day
initial needs assessment and project feasability trip to Niger, to
be hosted by our partner contacts there. The trip will be towards
the end of August / first week of September. The assessment will
follow guidlines and instructions from head office, and will also
include looking at logistical and other feasability issues.

If you feel you could fulfil such a role and want to volunteer,
then please get in touch with us, as Niger needs as much help as
it can receive right now. You should have a medical background,
although that it not necessary for all members of the team.
Perhaps more importantly, you should be able to speak at least
some French, as Niger is a Francophone country and the use of
English would be limited. If you feel you cannot travel abroad,
we could still use volunteers to help run, coordinate and develop
projects from here in the UK. A lot of the work can even be done
at home provided you have access to a computer and the internet,
and enough time to be dedicated to our cause.

If you would like to volunteer please email us with your CV and
state your availabilty. Our address is
and website is . Please don't hesitate
to contact us.

A SUPPORT NETWORK FOR SEXUALLY ABUSED MUSLIM WOMEN

I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and would like to set up a
support network for other survivors. It is well documented that the
effects of abuse can be widespread, pervading throughout life and
twisting one's inner reality. In such times we need someone who can
lend us a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen. My vision is to
lend a voice to all Muslim women survivors and raise awareness of
what abuse can do to survivors and their families. We can publish
newsletters, hold support meetings, go on outings to name but a few.
If you or someone you know would like to join me in this venture
then please contact me asap so that we may provide each other with
what others fail to provide - understanding and support. We can
start small but branch out later. Please contact Sister Aisha on

REQUEST FOR STAGE VOLUNTEERS BY QARI HASSEN RASOOL (Manchester)

My name is Hassen Rasool and insha'Allah I will be opening the Unity
Convention 2005 with recitation of the Holy Qur'an. I would like to
take this opportunity to request all brothers who have tickets to
join me on stage. I will be reading verses related to Unity and would
like to portray this physically with a lot of brothers sitting closely
on stage, dressed in white long thobes and white hats or white turbans
only. I need as many brothers as possible. I would like to discuss
this in more detail with those interested. Please put yourself forward
to make this a reality.

Your role: With the utmost level of humility to walk on stage, head
down, and sit closely together till the recitation finishes.

"And those who kept their duty to their Lord (Al-Muttaqun) will be
led to Paradise in groups." (Al-Qur'an, 39:73)

HOSPITAL VISITING SERVICE - VISIT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

The noble Messenger of Allah (pbuh) stated, "The best amongst mankind
is the one who brings benefit to others."

The Hospital Visiting Service is a voluntary project launched by
Ulfa Aid to serve those under hospital care. This project has been
initiated because of the great need to help people in distress and
sickness in our hospitals. Support during such times, no matter how
small, can prove invaluable. A person willing to visit others is
someone who gives their time and effort to make a difference.
Volunteers can be of all ages and backgrounds, with each person
bringing their own qualities to this effort.

The service is not intended for any specific community but will be
open to all patients of all backgrounds, cultures and beliefs.
However Muslim patients will most likely benefit at first until
the project gains enough inertia to widen itself or unless we are
requested by the relevant hospital authorities to do so.

If you would like further information or wish to put your name
forward as a potential volunteer please contact Dr Ahmed:
