*********************FORTHCOMING COURSES IN DETAIL**********************

1) TAJWEED: THE ART OF RECITING THE QUR'AN

Taught by Qari Marwan Ghaylani (Lebanon)*

Dates:
Monday 10th July to Friday 14th July 2006
Monday 17th July to Friday 21st July 2006

Sessions: Every afternoon for 5 days for 2hrs
Time: 2.30pm - 4.30pm

Level: Beginners

Tajweed is an act of reciting Al-Qur'an in accordance with the
established rules of pronunciation, intonations, velarization,
chanting and transposition. Thus reciting the noble Qur'an
in the correct manner means to recite it with Tajweed.

Allah Ta'ala says in the noble Qur'an, "And recite the Qur'an with Tarteel
(in a slow pleasant tone and style)." (73:4)

The Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) has said, 'Indeed Allah desires that the
Qur'an be recited in the manner it was revealed.'

When asked about the meaning of Tarteel, Ali (ra) replied,
'It means that the Qur'an should be recited with Tajweed and with due
observance to the rules of Waqf (pausing or stopping at the end of the verse).'

2) IN SEARCH OF BEAUTY: KNOWING ISLAM’S INNER AND OUTER DIMENSIONS

Teacher: Sidi Abu Aaliyah (Jawziyyah Institute)*

Dates: Monday 24th July to Friday 28th July 2006
Sessions: Every evening for 5 days
Time: 6.30pm to 8.30pm

A course based on the book "Miftah Tariq al-Awliyâ" by Shaykh Ahmad bin
Ibrahim al-Wasiti (d. 711 AH). It can be described as a Blueprint for
the Believer with regards to his or her religious and spiritual growth.
It brings together, in a succinct but profound manner, the inward and
outwards duties a person is required to know and fulfil in their worship
of Allah and service to humanity. This classical text lays out a simple
schema for Muslims as to how they can live an ethical, God-conscious
life in this age of spiritual turmoil and socio-political upheaval.

Both Ibn Hajr al-'Asqalani and al-Dhahabi describe Shaykh Ahmad bin
Ibrahim al-Wasiti as a "master", "gnostic - 'arif" and "of great standing".
Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali describes him as espousing "al-tasawwuf al-sahih",
i.e. the sound form of Sufism or Islamic spirituality. Ibn Taymiyyah
considered him to be the Junayd al-Baghdadi of his age; and personally
addressed him as "our shaykh, the gnostic, the exemplar, the wayfarer
to Allah."

Course objective: To understand the text's overall life-schema, so as
to begin internalising its invitation.

The course will cover all the eight brief chapters of the book, a complete
translation of which will be provided. The themes to be discussed will
include: [1] Remembering the Awesome Ordeal of the Day of Judgement; [2]
Preparing the Essential Provisions - learning and carrying out the basic
requirements of the Sacred Law, as well as the rights andresponsibilities
we owe to Allah and to others; [3] Being attached to Prophetic guidance,
conduct and character, both inwardly and outwardly, in one's day to day life;
[4] How to instill and nurture love for the Prophet (pbuh); [5] Sincerity,
Sacred Knowledge and Divine Remembrance; [6] Love, awe, fear and intimacy
with Allah; [7] The role and influence of friends and the company we keep;
[8] Prayer - its importance and inner dimensions.

A lot of material is to be covered during the week in significant depth. The
teacher will also refer to related subjects so as to derive maximum benefit
from the book without watering down its essential teachings, insha'Allah.
Participants are therefore encouraged to attend with the right frame of
mind and the necessary level of alertness.

Wassalaam 'alaikum wa rahmatullaah.

- The blessed Prophet (peace be upon him) mentioned
that 'The believer who recites the Qur'an and applies
it is like the utrujja (fruit), whose smell is fragrant
and taste is sweet .' (Bukhari)

Utrujj is based upon the teachings of the above Hadith in
seeking to equip you with the sacred knowledge of Islam,
while simultaneously training you in it's implementation in
your daily lives. As a result of this dynamic approach your
personality should insh'Allah come to personify this
sacred knowledge.

The change this creates will be witnessed by those around you
as they smell the sweet fragrance of your good speech and taste
the sweetness of your exemplary actions. Such a change within
individuals is critical in realising our covenant with Allah and for the
spreading of Islam, especially here in the West.
