The importance of knowledge is the key to improving
our practice of Islam in our daily lives. Delivering
this knowledge and receiving it are coupled with
responsibility. The student of knowledge also is
bestowed with Mercy as the Angels lower there wings
for those who endeavor to seek knowledge. However,
this knowledge can not be passed or received without
certain etiquettes being observed. This will ensure
that knowledge can be received in its totality and
benefited from which will consequently lead to practical
application and good character.

About Ibn Jam'ah
Qadi al Qudat, Shaikh al Islam, Badr al Din Muhammad
b. Ibrahim b. S'ad Allah Ibn Jama'ah was born in 639
A.H. (1241 A.D.). He was educated at Hama, achieved
excellence in religious studies and jurisprudence,
and became a leading promoter of the Shafi'i fiqh.
Eventually, he attained the high status of Shaikh
al Islam and held the high position of Chief Justice.
Imam al-Dhahabi has observed that Qadi Ibn Jama'ah
was well versed both in prose and poetry, and had
left copious notes on Fiqh, Hadith, Usul al Fiqh,
and Tarikh. He commanded respect and influence, and
had a large number of students and followers. He
died at Cairo in the year 733 A.H. (1332 A.D.),
aged 94, and was buried by the side of the great Imam Shafi'i.

'Adab Al-Alim Wa Al-Muta' Allim' is classical manual
for those students who want to develop a deeper
understanding and experience a comprehensive explanation
of the importance of observing etiquettes when teaching and
receiving the sacred knowledge.

Wassalaam 'alaikum wa rahmatullaah.

- The blessed Prophet (peace be upon him) mentioned
that 'The believer who recites the Qur'an and applies
it is like the utrujja (fruit), whose smell is fragrant
and taste is sweet .' (Bukhari)

Utrujj is based upon the teachings of the above Hadith in
seeking to equip you with the sacred knowledge of Islam,
while simultaneously training you in it's implementation in
your daily lives. As a result of this dynamic approach your
personality should insh'Allah come to personify this
sacred knowledge.

The change this creates will be witnessed by those around you
as they smell the sweet fragrance of your good speech and taste
the sweetness of your exemplary actions. Such a change within
individuals is critical in realising our covenant with Allah
and for the
spreading of Islam, especially here in the West.
