really? under what topic?

It was comparing barristers and solicitors to consultants and GPs and saying that it's totally different.

i wanted to be a barrister at one time but i heard that it was haram because you could be supporting some who is guilty and helping them to get away with a crime.

Its a very snooty profession. You have to go to like 8 dinners a year and be one of them to fit in. Its too hard for a practicing Muslim to survive in that profession. Plus you have to sit around until you actually get some work. So what is one suppose to do in the meantime? One of my undergraduate lecturers was a Barrister but then went part time coz he wasnt getting much work.

I think in criminal cases if your representing the defendant and your client actually committed the crime but has only told you about it you can actually stop acting for that person but you cant tell the court the reason coz of client confidentiality.

Tru Tru,

In criminal cases you are under a duty not to mislead the courts. So if the client tells you he's guilty you need to advise him to make a guilty plea, otherwise you can choose to stop acting for him.

Barristers do tend to be a little snotty, they think of themselves as the elite (yeah rite... but who do they go for cases??? The SOLICITOR!!!). Anyho.

Not all barristers are snooty or snobbish! It's actually against ethics to lie and cheat knowingly, it can get you disbarred. The more work expereince you've had the more cahnce you have of getting a pupillage.

Chin up, mate! Life's too short.

i know what u mean Sumaiya

ok maybe not all but most of them are. Yes cheating and lying might be against ethics but it doesnt stop solicitors and barristers from doing it.

Just because you have more experience doesnt mean to say that you will necessarily get a. pupillage. Example candidate 1 white upper class male with some experience.
Candidate 2 Asian working class male with lots of experience.

Candidate no.1 will get the job, why because he is white. Law is still a very discriminate profession (it was worst a couple years back but as more Asians are starting to go into the profession some firms are taking on Asian candidates but, when it comes to a place like Halliwells (leading commercial law firm in Manchester) how many Muslims do they have? None!

That doesn't mean you HAVE to cheat and lie, some Imams are outrageously offensive but that doesn't mean it's part of the job.
Yeah there is some discrimination but experience helps. And that doesn't mean you're doomed!

Chin up, mate! Life's too short.

Is it haram to wear a wig over the hijab?

Cos there used to be a Muslim women barrister in my old workplace, but I didn't think it was polite to ask if she put the white wig on top of her hijab.

Also, why is this (and another) discussion in the 'new members' thread? Huh? HUH?!

Don't just do something! Stand there.

You could have asked: "Just out of interest, do you wear the wig over the hijab in court?"
What makes you think it's haram?

Why is this in the New Members thread? Because we're protesting about you leaving us for Syria! Joke!

Assalamu alaikum,

My name is Mohammed Rashid and I am 28 years old living in East London. I run a weekend Islamic School for children and adults called Dar Al Rahmah () and work full time as a Business Intelligence Consultant (IT) and am looking to move into IT project Management for Islamic Finance. If anybody knows of any good courses please do let me know!

no its not stop making up customs, leave it to the veterans to do that.

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane, by those who couldn't hear the music...

Yeah it is. And I didn't make that one up!

Chin up, mate! Life's too short.

Actually at this point it may as well be a custom.

Which I originally started (you can check at the beginning of this thread), was only supposed to be a bit of fun. But it seems to have caught on. Mostly coz Mez became obsessed with it lol. Bless her.

Hello all.

When life offers you a dream so far beyond any of your expectations, it is not reasonable to grieve when it comes to an end.

Thanx.

And I could say the same thing to you.
