The Adolesence Myth

Quote:
Prepare yourselves, people, for a revelation sure to shock you and possibly turn your life upside down. Particularly if you’re a teenager.
There is no such thing as a teenager in Islam.
NO. SUCH. THING.
All right, so let’s first define what exactly a teenager is. According to the dictionary, a teenager is: a juvenile between the onset of puberty and maturity.
In this Western culture, a teenager is anyone between the ages of 13 and 19. It’s also a period of time where we’re pretty much expected to be irresponsible, immature, and do really stupid things. We can do the most idiotic things on the face of the earth, and we have a ready excuse: “Aw, man, I’m just a teenager!”
But guess what? That doesn’t cut it. Not in Islam, anyway. In Islam, there are exactly two stages in life for us: child, and adult. No in-between phase where you’re given a free license to be as much of an idiot as you like.
Let’s look at what the Islamic definition of ‘child’ and ‘adult’ is, before I launch into a full rant against the stupidity and incorrectness of the concept of teenager-hood.
The Islamic definition of a child is someone who has not yet reached maturity (physical puberty). According to Shari’ah, the faraa’idh of Islam (obligatory acts, e.g. salaah, zakaah, sawm, etc.) are not incumbent upon the child.

i think its a good read but i ddnt post it all cuz its quite long you can read the rest here:

That's true

But
when u hit puberty did u think "Im an adult now!" ?

things are different nowadays
because we're living longer
and because we have to attend school til the age of 16, we're still children mentally, even though physically we can...have babies and all that other stuff adults can do

Adolesences may be children intellectually and emotionally but physically they are adults.

This article is talking about the fact we Are adults in Allah (swt) eyes and all our actions good and bad will start to be recorded.
i think "You" said teh other day that your sins matter more when u are an "adult" i.e after 19/21 yrs (i think thats what he meant) im not sure if its true, it may be cu\ thats when you are mentally and emotionally and adult. but the point of this was to say you should try your best to do the right things instead of doing wrong and saying you're a "child" as an excuse for doing the action.

particularly because a lot teenagers dont have jobs or anything

SMILE! its charity Wink

You only pay Zaka'ah when you have the money to do so. If you are in debt or have no svings of your own, you have no zaka'ah to give.

There is such thing as puberty (bulugh).
If you are slighlty immature, then Allah will take that into consideration (inshallah) on the Day of Judgment.

I don't think that quote is strictly true.

While the onset of duties may be sudden, their practice should start before hand.

More, the reward for some good things is greater when a person is young (resisting temptation) and even in occasions, the punishment for a crime can be greater for people who are older (as they should know better).

In the UK, an 18 year old who commits a crime will not be treated as a kid, but as an adult. But technically he is still a teenager.

Dont forget "youth"!! Wink
